Rumortoid: Jet Grind Radio or wishful thinking? photo

People really shouldn't look at trademark filings, they only lead to false hope and disappointment. Such is the case with the latest rumortoid bubbling up to the Internet's surface concerning Jet Grind Radio. Sega has recently filed a brand new trademark for the game, leading some to believe that the company has regained its senses and might release a good game.

Certainly a wonderful thought, and the filing using such hopeful language as "downloadable game programs," "game programs for use with mobile phones," and "game programs for use with hand-held game machines," could lead one to reasonably believe that Sega is bringing the Dreamcast game to portable systems or XBLA/PSN. Possible? Very possibly possible, but not assuredly assured.

Companies routinely file trademarks all the time, regardless of whether or not they intend to do anything with them other than sue those who may infringe. It's more likely that Sega has filed this new trademark simply to stop anyone else from bringing Jet Grind Radio to the Internet or handhelds.

That's not to say it definitely won't happen. Jet Grind Radio, by all accounts, would make Sega's fans happy, and Lord knows that Sega needs to do that at some point in its existence. Just don't get your hopes too high.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'd love another JSRF game on any format.

Could you stop playing with that radio, Lord? I'm trying to get to sleep!

I'm with Ali. I'll believe it when I see it. And then I'll buy it. Who cares what platform it's on?

Jet Grind Radio on XBLA would be must have.
Come on Sega, try to do something good to us for once.

Though, knowing Sega, it will end up being a new game for the Wii with all spray painting replaced with swords or guns or whatever Sega thinks is cool today.

I would love to see a new JSR, especially if it were on Wii. Pointer controlled graffiti.

I don't care what system it would end up on, I'd creme my jeans over any new JGR/JSR.

@consumateK:

Finally got my hands on a copy of the JSRF soundtrack a few months ago. Absolutely lovin' it.

This game had the best use of Dragula by anything ever.

@ ConnsumateK - I can't stop hearing her voice now. Ugh, now I'm just gonna find all the songs on the internets so I don't go insane, geez.

@ Sterling - Are you suggesting that they might make a new one or that they're just repackaging the old one, cause I've still got my dream casting machine and whatnot.

Coincidentally, I just started replaying JSRF. I prefer the original, but my copy appears to have vanish from the material plain. It's good shit!

SpaceCat promised me personally that there would be a 3rd Jet Set Radio game. He's quoted in the IRC because he was so sure.

I told him, if I don't have a new JSR in 2 years I'm having his kitty bollocks off.

Kotaku said that they might be making a new Wii game, but I'd be happy to see the original game on XBLA. I just bought a Dreamcast a little while ago (still don't have any games), so I'll be fine whether or not it comes out digitally.

XBLA re-releases would be great. I didn't get a chance to really give either one a full and proper playthrough. Sega seriously needs to take a good long look at their entire back catalog for potential re-releases.

Since my Xbox died, I got rid of most of my Xbox games. DOA games, Marvel/Capcom/SNK games, and JSRF are the only ones I kept, in hopes of one day getting a new system.

I would love to see a new JGR.
