When Factor 5's president confirmed to IGN the other week that they were reuniting with Nintendo at least long enough to produce a non-Virtual Console title, more than a few ears perked up. Although quizzed up and down for more juicy details, Julian Eggebrecht was tight-lipped. Guess that was sort of expected... just enough to get us interested and wanting more.
What would the mystery title be? According to gaming site Kombo, who credits "a reliable source," the title in question is none other than a Kid Icarus game for the Wii -- and get this, built from the ground up, specically for it. Since nothing has been confirmed at this time (yes, the same old song and dance), we have to file this under the "rumors with great potential" category.
After the lukewarm reception that Factor 5 received with LAIR, this seems like an excellent way to right a few wrongs in the eyes of gamers, who have been clamoring for a new Kid Icarus game for what seems like ages. Since the Wii shares a few things under the hood with another member of the family -- the GameCube -- and knowing that Factor 5 is no stranger to creating hit games for that platform, they should (theoretically) be able to hit this one out of the park. Drop whatever else that you're doing F5, and make it happen. The fans will love you for it.
[Thanks, Madninja]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
A new Kid Icarus game would be fucking awesome.
Judging by Ron's response (who can see the details of those who sign in here), I'd say no to that one.
let's get a different art direction for this one.
I'm not getting my hopes up. >.>
Fuck you F5 and Nintendo for ruining my life for me. I'm giving my Wii to the local retirement home and building a MAME cabinet.
It's not something that can be helped. I know there's only a very slim chance this will happen, but I can't help getting excited. It's probably the same for most of the people here. I just love games that much.
Plus I personally want factor five to do something that doesn't involve flying, but that is what they are good at then If I was Nintendo I would rather see Star Fox or something like that if that's possible.
Instead of Kid Icarus.. I am not sure I would want retro to handle it. I want something different from them too. I would want to see what Monlith could do with the franchise. I am sure Disaster Day of crisis is done by now!!
Plus if this game is a hit can factor 5 still continue to make it, even though they still have a contract with Sony?
Most developers simply don't get the Wii, and I include Factor 5 amongst those who don't.
Nintendo have just finished Mario galaxy, Factor 5 have just finished Lair. No more needs to be said.
On the other hand, this retro revival is freaking sweet. I'd love Kid Icarus, or Megaman.
But still, it's good to see old IPs come back. Now, what about new ones, Nintendo? What, Project HAMMER was too much for you??
I think kid icarus I think of a game along the same epic lines of zelda so whoever within nintendo did tp need to do kid icarus
this could be the next system selling franchise if done right
but if its just a flight shooter on rails with weak story and having you crazily shaking the nunchuck for flight while you aim with the wiimote to shoot then they should pass
Kid Icarus was a broken game in several senses; besides the fact that is was glitchy, even for an NES game, the difficulty made getting some of the powerups necessary to make it through the harder levels impossible to get. And don't get me started on those FUCKING dungeons, those FUCKING wizards, or that one FUCKING BOSS that could walk through the left wall and warp back on the right because the programmers couldn't be assed to add proper collision. After making it through that hellhole of a dungeon, I expect a fair fight.
It was a good idea, but executed poorly. Seeing Factor5's past experience with waggle worries me more.
I would totally get a Wii for a Icarus game. Oh, and Brawl, Metroid, Mario, and Umbrella Chronicles.
Fuck it, I'll get a Wii soon.
No? They didn't? Well, there you go, then.
And no, I won't spell it "Melee". Except as an example of how I won't be spelling it.
Don't Hurt ME!
Maybe it'll be Donkey Kong Country 4 or Punch Out!!: Tyson's Revenge.
If you go by these stupid rumors, then by that logic, Mother 3 will be flying stateside with arms wide open. I want Mother 3 just as much as the Earthbound crackheads, but it ain't happening people. Just like this.
Now if this hidden project was to be *COUGHPROJECTHAMMERCOUGH* something original, then that would be devilishly delightful.
