Rumortoid: Home out by next Wednesday? photo

It's been on the cards for years, but one day, Sony is going to have to force itself to release Home. According to rumor mongers, that day is drawing near, as reports claim the quasi-social-kind-of-network-stuff could be out by next Wednesday.

British paper The Times claimed yesterday that Sony's thing was "slated for release in the next ten days." Sony did what Sony does, and has offered only a "no comment" in rebuttal. Hey, that's not a denial!

The PS3 platform holder has remained adamant that Home will release before the end of 2008, but with only a few weeks to go before 2009 rolls in, the clock is ticking. PlayStation Home has been delayed so often and for so long that it's become a running joke, especially since nobody really seems all that excited for it in the first place.

Although this rumor seems a little dodgy, if Sony is still intending to keep its promise on a release date, the next ten days is about as likely as anything.

Caretoid: Does anybody?

I don't think I've ever had a more boring experience than the hour a spent with my Home beta. I kept thinking to myself "There's gotta be something cool around the corner!" but there never was.

The most fun I had was planting myself inbetween people that were talking and doing the Running Man.

Sony should just go ahead and cut their losses and scrap home altogether, I'm with Dinnertime on this one and feel like a sucker for wasting my time with home.

I'll be out very soon if the beta is any indication.

Honestly, I always thought Home would be great for organizing FnF. You know, pop into the Dtoid club, see who's there and get a game organized before hand. If you guys are looking at it as a game and not like a social application, of course you're going to be bored >_>

brainderailment: agreed, I know that a week ago they sent out another few thousand beta invites, so I think that was probably the final stage of the beta.

While I'm not expecting Home to impress me too much at first, I do think that with regular updates based on user feedback it could become part of PS3's appeal.

Ditto what DinnertimeNinja said. Overall, Home is an incredibly boring experience.

I also hate any character creation that involves sliders as:
a. I suck with using sliders
b.It seems most games that use sliders all the characters are ugly anyways.
I realize it's only beta, but the clothing/hair options were extremely limited and when I'm creating an avatar I want a lot more freedom then that without having to pay for it. Hell, I like the Xbox avatars more than the "in-depth" character creation in home.

Still people are missing the point. HOME is not in and of itself, a source of entertainment. It is merely a conduit.

It is your XMB, your Friends List, your Games List and your in-game matchmaking all in a neat package.

Is your XMB fun? Fuck no. Do you need it? Fuck yes.

Is your Friends List fun? Fuck no. Would you get rid of it? Fuck no.

Is game-lauching and matchmaking fun? Duh.. NO! But that doesnt make it any less significant.

HOME is not a movie here to entertain you. Its a fucking movie theater, here to provide you with a link to the entertainment you're seeking.

Man, Home is so damn boring!

There is quite literally NOTHING to do there right now. The potential is there, but in its current state Home just isn't ready for prime time.

I recently saw a commercial for the Sony game consoles that showed people walking around with images of PS3 and PSP games displayed on their bodies...like movie projectors playing clips on their shirts.

Yeah, I suck at explaining it. I can't find it on YouTube, but it's similar to this one.

Point is, they showed a brief clip of Home. I thought maybe this was a sneaky way of telling people that yes, it'll be out before the end of the year. Or it could have just been a screw up by the person who added the images.

i will like home as long as they implement the media sharing features. streaming things thru the tv and pictures for a cool movie night or something similar. it's boring right now but there is shit to do like chess, bowling, pool and some arcade games. i had fun checking it out but it's very bare and it is a beta.

I guess being in the beta would help, but I don't understand some of the ill-will toward Home. It's just a big, extra-game lobby, isn't it? Play an arcade game while you wait for the rest of the FNF crew to show up and form a party, maybe check out a movie trailer or fill out your team with a couple random people. What's the problem?

Maybe I'm too accustomed to cutting through PR bullshit, but was anyone expecting more than an optional convenience from Home?

lol why is everyone dogging on it? If it isn't fun, don't use it, it's just an accessory. It's also FREE, I've never seen so many people dog on something that is free, and not required to use.

As far as a game finding lobby goes, home is pretty neat.
Best of all it's free and isn't forced on you.

If you don't care about it, you can ignore it and stop caring enough to tell people you don't care about.

It's dumb as a game, but I liked meeting other dtoiders and having a chat, walking around and whatnot. I ddnt even meet other dtoid folks until the ability to make clubs came out and I made one. We've had some good times chilling in the Dtoid Club, but beyond that and organizing FNF, I don't see much in it.

yea, i was hoping the Home beta would have let me do a few things w/pals but nope. can't share my movies or music.
can't launch games.

seems pretty pointless at this time.

why not atlteast let us have all of the tools/furniture avaiblable? how do you test multimedia sharing if you don't let us use it?

atleast its free i guess..

Remember, Home is a something that Sony plans on evolving the service forever. Look at the firmware updates on the PS3 and all the functionality they've added there through software. Home will be an ever evolving entity that will gain additional features as the years progress. You can be sure that it won't be just die with the PS3 either, it will be moved to any future Sony systems as well. It's a virtual game forum to meet friends, share ideas, and do other social things. It's not necessarily for the hard core guys.....plus it's FREE!

I like how people talk about home like we been waiting for multiple years when it was only announced in the beginning of 2007...

So its not even been two years, anyway i'm glad I recently got into the beta its pretty fun!
