Rumortoid: Guitar Hero arcade... made by Konami? [Update: confirmed] photo

There is a rumor that Guitar Hero arcade will show up at the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Attractions Expo 2008, set to take place this week in Orlando, Florida.

According to this information, the game has been developed by Raw Thrills, but will be published by Konami. Like, Guitar Freaks' Konami. Here's the rumor from an unnamed source at bemanistyle.com:

our source has stated the cabinet is going to feature 8-10 speakers, more than 500 LED lights and a 32″ monitor. The cabinet is also reportedly slated to take advantage of Internet connections to provide online cash tournaments sometime starting in 2009.

So, if this is true, there would be a Guitar Hero arcade game from Konami, and you'd be able to earn cash prizes from it. Crazy.

This supporting blurb popped up on Arcade Heroes, too:

Yay - we can talk about it now the news has broken - yep, Konami owns the rights to the technology for AC application so they worked with Activision and Raw Thrills. More big news about Konami expected soon.

Do you feel that this is legit? We'll find out soon enough.

[Update: the fine foks at bemanistyle have updated us on this game, with confirmation picture included (in the gallery above). You can see the cabinets, with integrated foot rests and all. And wireless guitars? Hmm.]

Hmm, rumours of a Guitar Hero arcade machine have been going around for years and have always seemed inevitable. As for Konami making it? I'm extremely doubtful.

Don't Activision and EA have to pay Konami because they have the patent on the guitar controllers to begin with? Or was I misinformed?

Agree with njsykora, why the heck would they make it when they still make Guitar Freaks? Unless they know that Guitar Hero would win in (whats left of) US arcades on name alone and are just trying to get some cash out of the deal.

Few people seem to realize that Konami pulls in a royalty from Activision due to its patents with every Guitar Hero. Harmonix and crew does not, thus the pending lawsuit. It makes perfect sense - Konami is continuing its fat ride on the coattails of Guitar Hero. Since the inspiration of Guitar Hero came from Guitar Freaks and Konami holds the applicable patents, Konami and the companies that have worked on the Guitar Hero franchise have been really good friends.

Given Konami's foothold in the arcade I could see this happening. They already have the manufacturing processes to build the things. Their software just sucked.

It's official. I have the first pic from the IAAPA setup. I'm sending Destructoid the info now.

And, yeah. Konami.

Cool. I've actually been mentioning to people that this would be a good idea. Finally a new arcade game that I will enjoy playing!

Hah! So all that Guitar Freaks needed to be successful is the name of a more popular franchise. I hope they keep the standard GH note highways instead of the flat Konami ones.

The game isn't being developed by Konami, just published. So based on that, I would assume that it'll be good 'ol Guitar Hero.
