Rumortoid: EA set to reveal a new installment of Syndicate franchise photo

According to a CVG report, Electronic Arts is getting set to announce a new version of the classic Syndicate series.

While there are no details on this supposed project, it's interesting to note that it was announced that Starbreeze were working with EA to resurrect a classic franchise. With the last game, Syndicate Wars, released in 1996, this certainly would fit the "classic" bill.

The Syndicate series was a fixed-view isometric real-time tactics title set in a cyberpunk universe. If Starbreeze -- best known for their recent work on first-person shooter titles like Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness -- are working on the title, we'd expect an updated Fallout 3-style re-working of the series. But that's just a guess; it could be more like Road Rash for all we know.

Only time will tell if this rumor pans out into reality, and who will actually be working on the title. Syndicate fans -- does this potential title excite or scare you?

Some one just posted something on the forums wanting a remake. Pretty cool coincidence. Anyhow I'm hoping this is true.

Definately of the gems of Bullfrog, with Dungeon Keeper being a close second. EA better make a good showing with this... it might make up for some of their prior mistakes.

What I would like to see that I think would stay in tune with the series is a sort of Rainbow Six:Vegas action.

You could still have the joy of building up your fortune and moding your agents with newer and cooler gear. Plus it would be a way to bring the series up to bat with the newer generation while at the same time keeping true to the spirit of the original game.

Control and play like R6V but give it a bit more openess like CrackDown. Not open world mind but remember how the stages were all just like small sections of a larger city?
You could decide exactly how you want to cary out your missions. Like Deus Ex.

Gosh I just got giddy as a school girl over this rumor. I hope I'm not setting my self up for disapointment with my dreams. More likly it will be a real bad POS that looks and controls like pure shit with dated PS2 grafix. Like the Spider Man 3 game.

I wish game companies would just make something new instead of dredging up old franchises. I liked syndicate back in the day, but its gameplay is WAY dated by now, and the devs would feel like they would have to retain some of the old game mechanics, or piss off alot of geeks.

If they had to do it, then something like what Blue Ryd3r said would be fine - more of a squad based customisable Deus Ex.

There was a bit of discussion recently about Syndicate on the forums, a new installment would be great. Hell, an XBLA remake of Syndicate/Syndicate Wars would be awesome too.

You can fuck off with that 1st person horseshit though. Do not want that.

@ Blue Ryd3r - OMG, I hope they do not go down that route and totaly screw it up.

I want them to keep the 3rd person isometric view (well maybe they do not have to have it strictly isometric) and everything I liked about the original but just update it and expand on the gfx and story whilst leaving the core mechanics of it alone.

If EA do this right, it will be immense, the Syndicate games were some of my favourite retro games. However if they fuck it up, there'll be hell to pay - you can't just go around pissing up classic series without irritating people!

I'm actually thankful Bullfrog won't be working on the game. They had a terrible knack for making amazing gameplay and graphics with the most mind numbingly repetitive levels ever. Syndicate with the same sorta gameplay but modern graphics and an actual story would be amazing.

I'll be honest, I only played the original games because I thought it was fun to destroy entire buildings.

At least we get a decent Developer this time around. Hopefully SBreeze will have the balls to make the same kind of gameplay as the old syndicate.

To the guy who wrote this piece: why did you have to go and mention Fallout 3, favourably? Must all old games be revived as shooters? Go play your console cra, and when posting news, leave your asinine comments out of it.

The original was one of the first games I played with a PC as a "serious" gamer. This is absolutely fantastic news. It will be interesting to see how they reimagine the game for the current time. Can't wait.
