Rumortoid: Disaster: Day of Crisis heads to the States after all? photo

After lackluster sales in both Europe and Japan, and a tongue-lashing from the Regginator himself, it looked like Disaster: Day of Crisis would never have the chance to bring its terrorist-blasting, CPR-pumping ways to the USA. Disaster is of the few games published by Nintendo to feature absolutely no Sci-Fi/Fantasy elements or cartoony characters, and instead bases it's world around the pseudo-reality found in most big budget Hollywood blockbusters. To deny a game like that US localization would be a huge slap in the face to the Bad Boys 2 loving American public, and a surefire way to lose money.

Disaster may be another mini-game collection, but the mini-games here involve using Mario Kart Wii-style steering-wheel controls to drive a sports car away from a rushing wave of molten lava, and using the Wii remote's pointer functionality to aim a shotgun at baby bears. Does that sound like a game that wouldn't do well in the USA?

Well, it looks like Dervin Camden of NoA agrees with me, as he's reportedly sending out emails stating that Disaster: Day of Crisis is coming to the States after all. Don't believe me? Then why not drop Dervin a line yourself? Best case scenario you get some inside info on NoA's release schedule, worst case scenario you get to interact with a guy named "Dervin".

Dervin is a guy's name, right?

Disaster may be another mini-game collection

Its not a just another mini-game collection.

Yeah the game is definitely NOT a minigame collection. It has real-time cutscene events that are extremely similar to those in ShenMue and RE 4. So I guess those games had "minigames" too? -_-;;

Reggie's right though; the game is by no means worth $50, but they'll sell it for that much anyway. This game should have been out at launch or near it, no question about it. It's not worth a purchase in any form of the word. It also brings absolutely nothing new to the table. If it comes to the states, yay, good for them. But those that are hyping themselves up on the basis of "we aren't getting it" alone are in for a major disappointment. The Wiifanboy.com review is the best one I've found so far of this game.

Hm.
I always thought it'd end up being some kind of disaster-survival adventure-y... thing.
That would've been kind of cool.

I want to know who expects this to sell so I can laugh at you.

The reviews that I've seen for this game go all over the spectrum - from a 5 to an 8.8. Has anyone on Dtoid actually played this game or are those who mock it doing so because they can?

I've played it, but I sadly, I don't own it.

Does it really seem like I'm mocking the game? That wasn't my intention at all. Actually, I can't wait to buy it. This and Fatal Frame IV were the two Wii games I was most looking forward to this year.

I already imported it... I like the game a lot. It's a complete cheezeball and definetly would have needed a little more polish on some textures and animations, but i found it incredibly fun. It's like being roleplaying a VERY bad cable movie.

And i like the rpgish elements. And the weird things like the gritty theme and dramatic dialogs and cutescenes and GIANT WATERMELLONS!

I just want to see Nintendo publish a game rife with profanity.

Dervin is a biblical name. It comes from the book of Greybush.

Sell it for $20-$30 and I am IN!

This seems like a fun game to play with friends and pass the controller around.

For all the flack this game gets from people it has gotten some really decent scores for the European press. If Nintendo does release it here in North America for like $40 I think it would be worth it. Its certainly not a bad game its just not a super high quality AAA game that's all, but its still a decent game though!

@Jonathan:

My statement wasn't directed at you, but at responses like the one from Kyousuke Nanbu. I just found it really odd that the game actually had some really decent reviews only to see some people slam it (and those who play it).

Ooh, maybe now I won't have to import it.

Fatal Frame IV next, please. Maybe a little Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Captain Rainbow, too, if we all pray really hard.

What the..!?

I didn't even know that this game was only released in Japan and Europe!

The game is not bad, at least is better than most of the games for Wii. Nintendo... Will the Resident Evil 0 come out from Japan at the end too?

I'm glad to see you yanks will getting it, but I have a theory about Reggie and this game.

I think Reggie and more so Nintendo may not have wanted this game on Wii, because it doesn't fit their family friendly false image. Its the only reason I can think of that Reggie would downplay this game publicly, despite DoD developers hard work.

So yeah, it may be a bit of B movie cheese, but if it plays well and is fun (another good example is EDF 2017, cheesy but fun), who's to complain. I still find it astounding that Nintendo wanted to not release this stateside, and again once confirms that they are not listening to their fans desires most of the time.
