Rumortoid: Diablo III release date and specs leaked? photo

You want it. I want it. God, anyone with a brain should want it, because Diablo III is going to be the hottest thing for PC gamers to hit in some time, and I can't wait to mindlessly kill things again in true Diablo style. We've all been wondering when we might get our hands on it, and Kaputik had rumored news on it this morning: not just dates, but specs as well! This information was from "associates working on a Diablo 3 game design", so it's hard to say if it's reliable ... but I'd guess it likely has some truth to it.

According to this source, a September 11th release has been set for the online multiplayer beta trial version, while the game itself will be released on December 24th -- Christmas Eve! Hey mom, I'm not coming home this year for Christmas, just so you know. Sorry!

You can find the specs after the jump, which aren't quite as extreme as I was originally fearing. I know my poor little laptop won't run the game, but if these rumors hold any truth, I'll have plenty of time to build something that will before December. As soon as we hear official word from Blizzard confirming these dates, we'll be sure to keep you informed. Excited yet?

I am a bit skeptical of that release date. While I am sure the game would sell well regardless of the day it was released, I don’t understand the logic of trying to launch a game on Christmas Eve. Like I said, it will undoubtedly sell like crazy, but why would Blizzard even potentially jeopardize their launch day sale figures? Will some people stand in line on Christmas Eve just to play D3? Sure. But I think there will people who will put off by the prospect of having to stand in line on one of the busiest shopping days of the year and will pick up their preorders after Christmas, just to avoid standing in a massive line and I would imagine Blizzard knows that. It would make far more sense to release the game in earlier December, get the big first day sale figures for PR, restock before Christmas and try to get a big second round of sales based off the hype. But it is all speculation at this point, but exciting stuff nonetheless.

Sweetass. Dx9 is good news, can breath a sigh of relief there. If the 1.4ghz proc isn't BS, thats a pretty reasonable low end system that can play - even my laptop and my bro's PC-of-the-moment could do that.

I wonder what the recomended specs will be.

Even if this is true, it won't hold. Blizzard has delayed every single one of their major release games, mainly to grant more time working on them. Hell, they're known for that. Just won't happen.

Those system requirements sure sound delicious! But a Christmas eve release? Really? It's a bad move to release games later than December 12th. I think it's more realistic that we'll see this baby next year.

Awesome to the MAX. I'm building a new PC for the release of this and Starcraft. Looks like I'll need a job, though... :\ Do these system requirements seem a little on the low-side to anybody else? I guess it could be correct, if Blizzard doesn't want to alienate too many people from playing with the setups they currently own.

Also: like Drach said-- for the love of all that's holy, please PLEASE no pay to play.

you know what be nice? Diablo: Survival mode! Just like in Call of duty zombie mode, the diablo players are stuck in a castle and are besieged by demonic forces, every round they get to buy items or skills or whatever to prepare for the next round. This keeps on going until inevitably the players lose. Wow, how awesome would that be? Sometimes I scare myself of what I can think...

Very excited. Thankfully, the machine I built triples the requirements. I was concerned it'd be on the high-end. Looking forward to grinding through this thing - better start exercising my left-click finger more.

It sounds like the Christmas Eve release statement might've been more along of the lines of, "In time for Christmas Eve." It'd be pretty screwed up of them to do it on that date. That is, unless they're digitally distributing it on that date. That wouldn't be too far out there considering their use of battle.net as a distribution service already.

Those specs seem a bit modest to me. I have a 5 year old PC with these requirements. Are these minimums, or will the game run at full steam with these?

@Chronic Logic - Seconded!

The system requirements sound very reasonable, I guess that's the minimum though, I don't think a 128mb Graphics card will cope with rainbow coloured unicorn poo!

I've come to the conclusion that since all of Blizzard's games run natively on the Mac (and don't require Transgaming garbage), they are either hoarding all the talented programmers or everyone else just sucks.

Rumors about a Blizzard game are about as believable as a picture of Jesus in a grilled cheese sandwich.

Come on guys, does no one remember the travesty that was the Diablo 2 release date. It got pushed back time after time after time, for almost 2 freaking years. No offense Colette, but I just have an incredibly hard time believing this.

The specs seem legitimate but I think we'll see the first Starcraft 2 game sometime at the end of the year and I don't think that we'll see Diablo 3 release so close to it.

I'm more inclined to believe that the SCII: Wings of Liberty will be the release of '09 where Diablo III will probably be '10 at the earliest. What's been cycling around in comments, blogs, and news releases for the most part seems to be that the races for SCII are nearing completion and they only need to focus on finishing up the terran campaign. D3 they still have only one or two acts mostly fleshed out.

Ah, i love Rumortoid! I cannot wait for this, and I hope that the time they spend polishing it up will give them time to implement many many many fun modes of play (Chronic Logic im looking at you) and I also have to agree with e-yak, in time for Christmas sounds more reasonable. Until then, I cant wait for multiplayer beta!

I would love for this to be true...but i don't think it would happen. The specs on the other hand probably are true. Blizzard games are not only renowned for never coming out, but they are also renowned for low specs because they use art to have awesome looking games. They don't go for specs like crisis because thats just limiting the people are price to play the game...the price for crisis= cost of game + cost of a comp that can run it...price of diablo 3= cost of game.

Diablo 3 released on December 24th? Is this some kind of AR game? To buy a game about hell, you must first enter REAL hell?

1.4 Ghz cpu with at least 1g of RAM??? While that would be incredible I'm very skeptical thats actually the case. There have been ghz computers for a long time, the year 2000 or even earlier. I remember working at Circuit City at around 1999 and seeing the first PC with an athaoln 1ghz cpu come in. So that means I could have a PC that's at least 8 years old and run this. While that sounds great I'm not sure I'd hold this to be true. I'd guess at least a 2 ghz more than likely 3ghz CPU P4 or better. So for now I call bullshit, but heres hoping it is true.

Thank goodness they're not pulling off the whole "I need a theoretical space super computer that only exists in the minds of other computers" just to play this game. More people can play this game and enjoy it, instead of being cut to a small (and somewhat richer) crowd. YAY!

This seems very unlikely.

Blizzard has said that SC2 is definitely coming before Diablo III, which would mean they had not only nailed down the Diablo release date but the SC2 release date as well.

They've also said that (in a conference call) they expect one mainline release per year for the forseeable future. Since they could WoW expansions as "mainline" this likely means Diablo II will come in 2010 or 2011.

Not to mention that we only know about three of five classes right now, which would mean we would need two unveils, an alpha, and a beta in nine months.

What are the minimum system specs for WoW? I was skeptical of these minimum specs until I checked it out:
Minimum: Intel Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+; 512 MB RAM (1GB for Vista users; 3D graphics processor with Hardware Transform and Lighting with 32 MB VRAM Such as an ATI Radeon 7200 or NVIDIA GeForce 2 class card or better

If they can run WoW with that, I wouldn't be surprised if you could run Diablo 3 with these specs. After all, from the screens I've seen (which are presumably the best possible screens that Blizzard can render at this time) Diablo 3 doesn't look that much better than WoW

OMG even my PC meets those specs and I bought mine off ebay for £30.

Even if they aren't quite that low I will be a very happy bunny indeed if this hunk of junk can run it and I don't have to speed up my buying a new PC.

Actually Im going to spin this the other way. It would be a marketing success to release it on X-mas eve. Why, well being possibly one of the biggest games in PC history, it will challenge the very foundations of what is right and wrong for X-mas release dates and it would challenge X-mas itself! Think about it, the people who would be neglecting christmas and their families. Bragging rights here. Just an idea. And as for the specs, well its not a huge imense FPS here. And the ram and video specs are definately higher than systems back 5 years ago, so the processor dosent need to be killer really.
