Rumortoid: Criterion developing its own Need for Speed title photo

Could a Criterion Games-developed Need for Speed be on the cards for a 2010 release? Seeing as how EA is currently overseeing the production of not one, but three separate NFS games, I'm willing to believe almost anything at this point.

Primotech is reporting that during "an internal presentation by John Riccitiello at EA headquarters in Redwood City last week," the strange, yet intriguing announcement was made. When asked to comment, an EA rep told the site that "right [now] we're focused on Need for Speed World Online, SHIFT, and NITRO."

The folks at EA must have some insane concentration, because that seems like a heck of a lot to focus on at once, if you ask me. As someone who has often preferred the Burnout series over Need for Speed, I'm very eagar to see what Criterion can bring to the table. That's if this whole thing ends up being legit, of course.

I missed the part of the linked article that would imply that Criterion was involved in a NFS game, right? I see three games mentioned all linked to different devs. Not that that excludes them from working on a fourth.

Anyway, were this true, verily I say unto thee: w00t!

I have such a poor opinion of previous Need for Speed games that I almost hope this isn't true, so Criterion won't waste their talent trying to make something worthwhile out of an also-ran franchise.

Unless it's Need for Speed IV, then I'm not interested.

IGOR: Werewolf. There.
Dr. Frankenstein: I beg your pardon?
IGOR: There wolf! There castle!
Dr. Frankenstein: Why are you talking like that?
IGOR: I thought you wanted to.
IGOR: Suit yourself...I'm easy.

A new title under a different company? Hmm. I guess the franchise could use some new blood.

EA are working on World Online, SHIFT and NITRO. Criterion are working on CTRL, ALT and DELETE.

Why? Just stick to Burnout. That's the only racing game I need. No stinking Need for Speed.

Need for Speed with Burnout damage modelling? All over it.

Might sound like heresy but I'd be totally cool with them just slapping the Need For Speed brand in front of the next Burnout game.
