Rumortoid: Conan developer working on zombie apocalypse game for XBLA, PSN photo

Screw the haters. I'm of the mind that there can't be enough zombie-related videogames on the market. It seems like developer Nihilistic Software and I are on the same page.

Our sources tell us that the developer -- who released the THQ-published third-person action splatterfest, Conan last year -- is working on an Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network title tentatively called "Zombie Apocalypse." Details are sketchy, but we're told the title is an arcade-style game which would also feature online multiplayer support. "Zombie Apocalypse" may have gamers fighting to save survivors from zombie hordes over the course of several in-game days, using weapons like a chainsaw, as well as deadly environmental hazards.

This info seems to jive with Nihilistic programmer and artist Mike Parsons' resume, which we dug up today by poking around the Internet. Parsons list a "to be announced" "arcade style downloadable zombie game" for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as one of his current projects. His resume also lists another unannounced title, a third-person action game for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sierra's kiddie-style Xbox LIVE undead game Zombie Wranglers seems to be stuck in limbo somewhere, but at least we have doublesix's PSN title Burn Zombie Burn! to look forward to. Is there room for another digital zombie-slaughtering adventure in your life?

Ah man. I hope Left 4 Dead didn't pave the way for "zombie games" to become the new World War II shooter.

As one of the few people who actually enjoyed Nihilistic's Conan game, this sounds good to me.

I know this might sound weird, but am I the only one here who doesn't love everything to do with zombies? I just don't really get the appeal. Anyone care to enlighten me?

I would like a zombie game with a focus on survival and melee combat instead of guns and being an engine of zombie death.

Yes, you ARE the only one here who doesn't love everything to do with zombies. Sadly, I doubt we could instruct you in the ways. It seems to be an inherent matter of preference. Someday, perhaps through sorcery, we can bring you lovingly into the undead fold. In any case, I'm all for this, and most other, games willingly to do the zombie apocalypse right.

Also, cocks.

Until we get a Zombie infested City real time MMO with real time city infestation technology...we don't have enough zombie games.

Please have realistic blood and gore.. I liked how House of the Dead 1 did the damage on the dead.
A Romero license would be sweet but the last game he had anything to do with sucked.

This sounds right up my alley.

It's not just zombies that make the Zombie genre so appealing. For me, the idea of an apocalyptic situation which may or may not include zombie-like things that is appealing. The survival aspect. That's where the survival part of survival-horror became so awesome. There's LOTS of good literature (and I'm not just talking about Brookes's stuff) that approaches this stuff.

I just picked up the new Oneechanbara game for 360 and I love it. It wasn't long (i'd say a few minutes) before the targets became less zombie, and moar ...targets(that game is just FUN!).

I'm not ashamed to be so attached to this phenomenon. If nothing else it's a demonstration of what to do if society disintegrated and chaos reigned. Survive, amirite?

@sickNasty:
There's a huge fan base for movies and entertainment involving the undead. I would recommend watching the George Romero films first (Night of the living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, and Diary of the Dead), , then branch off... Don't miss the comedy ones too like Shawn of the Dead and Fido. Also: if you're watching a Dawn of the Dead not made by George Romero, find the Romero one first, then watch the newer one. I think those movies (plus others with the same monsters) create a desire to slay the undead amongst gamers.

Fuck the haters, as long as the games don't become boring then I'm cool with this. Zombies make pretty much everything better, as you can't really go wrong with them.

Oh, and DO WANT.

Conan was absolutely amazing. Fuck the haters who said ill of it. If they are making a zombie game, I can only hope it is as gory, over the top, and sexist as Conan was.

I'd love to see what Kal Yoshika said: something on a larger scale, like an entire city, where you have to survive and build defenses, scavenge for resources, stuff like that. Kinda MMO, kinda RTS, that sort of thing.

Something like that isn't really in the scope of an XBLA/PSN game, but a guy can dream...

Zombies will always rock. They take any shit you throw at them, don't complain or run away, so long as they get the three limbs meals a day...lol

We will always be fascinated by death, so the walking dead will always get our love. Don't flood the industry with too many zombie games though.

Sure, I too think that a zombie style RTS is the next way to go for some games, so that we can all be thrown kicking and screaming into the hordes to survive. Give me a gun, crow bar some food and water supplies, and I'll gladly become one man army hobo, clearing space for myself in a world gone mad.

By the way, if you love zombies, pick up Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic series. Its ongoing and freaking awesome sauce. Its up to issue 58 at the moment. I know you'll love it.
