Rumortoid: Chrono Trigger coming to Nintendo DS this winter? photo

Emphasis on the Rumortoid. A supposedly leaked scan from this week's issue of Famitsu shows what looks to be information on an "enhanced" version of Square's infamous classic, saying that it's headed for the DS. While there are plenty of you out there who may already NOT have Chrono Trigger on your NOT DS, the prospect of something like this is still pretty exciting, huh?

A translation of the scan roughly reads as "Square's classic fantasy RPG comes to the Nintendo DS, winter 2008." It then goes on to say that a price point has yet to be decied and all that sort of super-interesting nonsense. So is it real? Faked? And just how enhanced is "enhanced?" I suppose we'll know for sure when this week's Famitsu is released. We'll keep you posted, but in the meantime you can check out the gallery below to see the alleged scan in all its sh*t-resolution glory.

I call fake. Just how do they plan to revise this game for the DS's features? I seriously can't think of any way they can do that without significantly altering the story.

It doesn't have to use the DS's features. The DQIV remake doesn't really aside form using two screens. If they bump up the graphics a bit and clean up the translation I would be happy with that.

The game is damn near perfect.

Holy crap! Ah, the love I have for Chrono is wrong. WRONG I say!

Hope they don't screw this up. It will be the only Sqeenix title I've purchased in years.

Now will they kindly remake Xenogears for the PSP? Pretty please? I'll even shower and shave for it :))

Whya re they making this? CT was an awful game. This needs to be a new game that is Cross-related or it needs to not come at all.

Anyone who wants a Cross game over a Trigger sequel (cuz god knows Cross was never a sequel to Trigger, rather it was an orgional game that tried (or was forced, Square was in the right phase for that nonsence) to shoe horn in Trigger's nonsence and ended up pissing off a lot of people in the process) should be drug out into the street and forced to play Dragon Quarter (a simmilar failing; it's not a Breath of Fire game, it's barely a game in of itself, it's a meens of torture).

Then, just as they think thier justly deserved punishment is over, they should be slaped in the face with a gameboy advance playing Sonic the Hedgehog Genisis.
And then forced at gun point to play that to the end.

Then we'll see who wants what.

There is no awful Chrono Trigger sequel that did nothing to advance the story bar killing the three main cast Members of Trigger and leave the two best supporting party members MIA.

It should be a fine release. If you really want to buy it after all of that "GRRRR SQUARE WHY U RELEASE SO MANY PORTS AND NOT ORIGINAL GAMEZ?" business.

Screw all you nah sayers screw you in your jaded assholes. I'm not sure I can take much more Diablo 3, Chrono Trigger DS, now all I need to here is there making a Chrono Cross sequal and I will officially crap my pants from a heart attack.

Also Anthology came out almost 10 years ago and I'm sure that there are some kids who never got to experience the awesome goodness of Chrono Trigger.

As the four letters in the link shows this is likely to be a remake like the SNES FFs... Maybe if it sells well they will do a next-gen TRUE sequel of CT (and not that monstrously overrated piece of crap that is CC)...

I might have to get a DS after all. New Super Mario Brothers has been calling my name for a couple of years now.. then the FF3 and FF4 remakes.. now.. this? If they release a FF6 remake for the DS, I'm giving up and selling my life to Nintendo.

Maybe this will finally lead to another sequel? As a sidenote, everyone who is bitching about Chrono Cross needs to stop breathing.

I have to agree with others. That teaser site...as simple as it is...is pretty sweet. You can tell by the shape of the "clock" alone that its the CT clock from the opening sequence. I must have just sat watching the clock ticking away with shivers running down my spine for a couple of minutes before coming back here to read the rest of the comments. This is GREAT news!! Now, just need an official announcement so they'll drop some screen shots on us. ;-)

Also, it makes me wonder...what is it counting up TO? Because it looks to be an actual working time piece.

Interesting.... I was just reading this same report over on Kotaku, and checking the remarks there. Someone said something about the clock on the teaser page, and I checked it out. They are right...it doesn't appear to be a countdown clock. Its synced to the clock on your PC when you go to it. Minute for minute, too, as I watched the second hand sweep past 12 right as the minute changed on my PC. That's kind of cool, but I wish it had been a countdown of sometime to make it interesting. lol
