Rumortoid: Castlevania: Judgment to bring the whipping action to the Wii

Rumors have been flying around recently about a new Castlevania game popping up. First, we got word about Konami trademarking "Castlevania: Judgment" soon after the Order of Ecclesia trademark was found out. Next, there's some leaked screens that are supposedly from the next Castlevania DS title.

If you take a look at the title screen, there's a "Wii" option above the game start menu. While that's not proof-positive, this bit from CVG points out a bit of PR for the upcoming manga based on Castlevania: Curse of Darkness done by Kou Sasagura and being published by Tokyopop.

Cross-promoted with the 2008 video game releases, which include games for the Nintendo Wii and DS (Fall 2008)

That says a bit more about things, now doesn't it? At the very least, we have two upcoming Castlevania games this year. If "Judgment" is in fact a totally different game, we've got first word on a third title being cranked out. Speculation is go!

Id like to put in a formal request for a new 3D Castlevania like Lament of Innocence only waaaaay better and with no waggle at all. My arms are very weak.

Castlevania on the Wii?

Motion Controls?

I hope it's beautifully hand drawn 2d, like Odin Sphere was. Oh, and the Castlevania guys already said that if there is a Wii Castlevania, it wouldn't use waggle for the whip. So that's a relief.

They will do a Castlevania Wii with no motion controls.

@BlindsideDork:

I know that would be the kind of Castlevania game I would want. Why do Wii games have to automatically equal crazy waggle? I mean, they do most of the time but that doesn't mean every developer has to enforce it. Remember when this crap happened on the DS and everyone assumed DS games had to use touch screen? I don't know why this is still an issue with Wii. Give me a 2.5D game with maybe some point and click interactivity and I will be sold.

Konami don't toy with my emotions like that. This better be fucking good.

@DrRockso

IGA just said a few weeks ago that he still didn't know what he'd do with a Wii Castlevania so he must either be playing dumb or someone else is making it.

I just wish he'd do a 2D Castlevania on 360 or PS3. He can't seem to admit to himself that the series doesn't work in 3D.

To be honest I'd prefer a RE4-style Castlevania, but we know that's never happening.

As a Wii owner this excites me, but as I'm planning on getting Order of Ecclesia I think there'd be a case of Castlevania burnout of the Wii game is yet another 2D game.

I'd be perfectly fine with a 2D Wii game. Maybe they can have it where you can transfer data between the new DS game and the Wii game...

I hope it's a 2d for a home console with awesome sprites and simple, non-motion controls.

fuck, that would be soooo freaking cool, but would get a little tiring after a while.

2D please. I don't want to have to make a whipping motion to attack.

Meh. I'm not sure if I'm up to waggling through an entire castle and back again.

Inconsistent Wii controls + medusa heads + spikes below = pending frustation

I will accept this newfangled spelling of "judgment" only if the Wii Castlevania is 2D goodness on par with Odin Sphere.

When is that Vanillaware's Wii game coming out, anyway?

A new WiiWare Castlvania would be awesome. We don't need anything 3D like the others. Stick to 2D, but with awesome visuals.

Oh, and hard drive support, too. (Sorry, I have to mention that every time I talk about WiiWare now.)

I'm skeptical, but Castlevania is a series of total win. Konami better not fuck this up.

I'd prefer this stayed in the 2d realm. I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and all, but when it comes down to it Castlevania just works best in 2d. Although it'd be nice for Koji and team to prove me wrong.

My vote goes to "Highly unlikely." Or at least, "Not Fall 2008." I have no doubt another castlevania will come to consoles again, but given IGA's belief that he failed with the console editions, I think a little more work will go into them first.
