Rumortoid: Call of Duty does sci-fi photo

Here's a rumor for you that could well be bollocks, but is something to mull over on a Saturday morning regardless. An Infinity Ward insider is reported to have said that the Call of Duty developer is currently working on a science fiction title that could be announced soon.

"We are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3," stated the mysterious bean spiller.

Of course, if this is true, there's no indication that it would be part of the Call of Duty series, but that franchise is Infinity Ward's bread and butter. Would a Call of Duty: In Space This Time work for you guys, or would a brand new IP be more IPealing?

I'd like to see something like this from Infinity Ward; but I doubt this happening, well from the CoD franschise anyways.

Fingers-crossed.

I'd be up for a sci-fi Call of Duty, hopefully not involving aliens though, there's enough of them already.

Well they did say in an interview COD4 was a toss up between near future and scifi, so I'm not surprised.

Hell YES! way better then the shitty WW2-settings!

IW has proven they've got the potential to create an insanely immersive game-experience and I'd love to play in a scifi-setting like that!

This would be the next evolutionary step for the franchise. After CoD4, it would be hard for most of us to go back in time again. I don't want another freakin' WWII game.

Note to developers: We're burned out on these.

I am really getting sick of the COD franchise. They started out believe able, now if this is true it will be retarded. This is almost getting to as bad as Madden...

This isn't franchise whoring, it's smart. As Gameboi said, this is the natural progression for the series. Also, there's no word as to whether it will even be part of the CoD franchise. Shockingly, some companies like to develop more than one IP.

I'm not so sure about sci-fi. But I'd welcome a time setting similar to Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, instead of laser beams and shit like that.

I've never played a COD game, but sropping what I read/hear are great game mechanics into a sci-fi setting would definitely get me to at least try it, and I suspect many others not into WWII shooters would as well. That's probably why they're considering it.

I would hope that they would do it- I am real tired of the "realistic military shooter" I mean it is really the same thing again and again- it would have to be something special to make me buy it

Id prefer it over another WWII game at least. Infinity Ward is making it, so it should be good, whatever it is.

HAAAy! i know lets name it something like "worlds at war" that would be hella radz! best game of year.

Really though, I'd love to see a little twist like this in cod5 starts out WW2 and then BAM sci-fi...though it would never be a secret until launch so what a waste.

how does this have anything to do with call of duty, just because a dev who worked on call of duty is working on a different game doesnt mean that game has anything to do with call of duty.

also, I have played about 500 space marines versus aliens type games, and I usually enjoy them, so sure I'd be interested.

Hopefully it's not too futuristic/si-fi. I'd rather it be closer to the time period of Modern Warfare than something like, let's say...Halo.

I'd love it the CoD4 team were to do a Starship Troopers game. Empire Intersctive's effort were good, but difficult. I wonder if such a game would retain the satire humour of the films. Wishful thinking perhaps.

Going forward and creating something new would be cool. While I too do not want another trip into WWII, I have to admit, after seeing the video of it, and hearing what they are trying to do with the game, I guess I'll still end up buying it.

It looks like CoD WaW will do for WWII games, what CoD4 did for modern war themed fps games.

Sci-Fi Call of Duty? Call of Duty 5: Future Warfare? That won't work, I'm afraid. One of the things which draws people into COD games is the fact that they either use historical battles or try to make it as realistic as possible. A futuristic combat game wouldn't fit in with the rest. I'm all for Infinity ward making a new series (COD can't go on FOREVER), just as long as it's not anything to do with generic space-marines killing aliens on a space station, and as long as they leave COD out of the title.

Again, maybe it won't be a COD game. That would make me very happy, because I think that in order for Infinity Ward to survive, they're going to have to do a little bit more than COD, over and over again. It would be nice to end COD after one more game, give the title to treyarch permanently, and then bunker down and do something else. I think Infinity Ward can impress, if it explores new territory.
