Rumortoid: Call of Duty 7 is in Vietnam, Cuba photo

It's hard to keep track of the numbers, isn't it? Well, Modern Warfare 2 is right around the corner, but there's already talk of Call of Duty 7, and the rumors connect the musical score to some possible locations.

The folks at That Videogame Blog heard from a source that Activision has been looking to license music for Call of Duty 7, and it seems that they were looking for Vietnam War era tunes for the score.  The same source said that they were also wanting Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music.

Finally, the source said that Call of Duty: World at War’s senior producer Noah Heller is tied to the project, which points to this being a Treyarch-developed title.

TVGB reminds that Heller himself said last year that future Call of Duty games would show the final battles of the Pacific and European Theatre, letting them put the whole string of World War II games to an end. This makes the rumor sound that much more solid.

We thought we'd poke Activision to see what they said about this. Here's the official comment we received just now:

Activision doesn’t comment on rumor and speculation.

Of course you don't, Activision.

Call of Duty 7 already? Wow... Shouldn't they finish up COD5, COD6, and COD: Modern Warfare 2 first?

Eventually the Call of Duty series is going to run out of traditional conflicts, it's clear that the Nazi zombie mode in World at War is to prepare us for the inevitable Call of Duty 8: World War Z.

Wouldnt they call the next "call of duty" #6 if they arent calling modern warfare2 a cod? It's bad enough that there are 2 devs working on 1 ip.

@Projectexodus Modern Warfare 2 IS Call of Duty 6. And remember, Activision is a bunch of money-grubbing mongoloids, of course they'd be working on two titles at once.

Anyways, Treyarch is making this, so I won't even give it a try.

brsinderailment: Getting even more technical, it would be Call of Duty 5. World at War had no attached number.

Didn't one of the CoD game already have a Vietnam setting?

How about the American Revolution? or the American Spanish War? The Barbary War?

Bay of pigs would be sweet, also, I would love to be put in either the shoes of the Mujahideen or the Soviets during the Soviet War in Afghanistan.

and @ Chronic Logic - I know you're being facetious, but the Barbary Wars would be completely awesome, someone desperately needs to make a FPS Napoleonic War Age of Sail game (niche much?).

NO NO NO!!! Not Vietnam yet! I thought Vietnam was off limits until realistic jungles can be accurately be recreated in games (crysis didn't even pull this one off) so I wasn't expecting a Vietnam war game for another 5 years... don't screw this up Activision :(

Call of Duty is great, but they are milking the shit out of the franchise, and it's only existed for few years. Seriously, what kind of game has this many sequels when it hasn't existed for 10 years yet? Whether Activision likes it or not, eventually they are going to have to stop making CoD once they realize that gamers not longer care after Call of Duty 27: 4th Dimensional Combat releases. infinity Ward, I'm sorry this had to happen to a franchise that you started.

I can understand setting it in Vietnam, but why Cuba? Would you play as the revolutionaries under Castro? I don't think too many Americans and exiled Cubans would like that. Would you play as CIA agents in Cuba, who performed numerous terrorist acts to destabilize the new communist government? Again, that's not very fun. Or would you play as a hapless soldier in the Bay of Pigs fiasco, getting mowed down or retreating because the US severely underestimated the capacity of the Cuban military? Cuba doesn't offer many great (real) battles, unless you like being a communist, or you don't mind burning down crops under the CIA's orders.

It would be good if there was a "cold war setting". But apart from the Korea War, and the Vietnam war, what famous Cold-War era battles were there that involved large numbers (50,000+) of US troops? None that I can think of. It would be interesting if it explored the Cold War from other perspectives, like as a Soviet Soldier in Afghanistan, but who wants to go around to village after village, killing civilians (which is pretty much what the russians did in that country).

Unless they make up crap, I don't think a Call of Duty game about the Cold War would be very good - both sides did terrible things to civilians. It's not like in WW2, where you could genuinely support the US/UK/Russian/Chinese forces, because they got attacked first, but in Vietnam or Cambodia, Cuba or Laos or in many of the small proxy wars that took place in Africa between Soviet and American backed factions, there wasn't much heroism or idealism.

could be interesting.Activision and the Call of Duty boys could make a very good Vietnam game.most Vietnam era games have been pretty lame so i can't wait to see what activision does with it.raining down some howitzer fire on trucks from a lurking bomber over the Ho Chi Minh trail could look awesome, bring on the first screenshots.
as for Cuba well thats a new theater that hasn't been explored in i video game that i can remember, that could be cool.

I hope COD does not reach double digits without some huge change. I would hate to buy "COD15:Bob shoots Pedestrians" and not like it.

not sure if want.

I'd liek to see this get delayed, and have the best of both studios, as this could actually be a very compelling setting(s)

Actually, the setting for the new one will be the vietnam er. Where you play a combat injured soldier returning to the US where you must navigate hippies and anti-war rallies. One level someone doses you with LSD you and find yourself trapped in combat flashbacks but instead of the VC you are fighting monster versions of your parents and dog. The final level takes place in the VA hospital where you have to fight for your psych-meds from doctors, nurses, and Richard Nixon.
