It's hard to keep track of the numbers, isn't it? Well, Modern Warfare 2 is right around the corner, but there's already talk of Call of Duty 7, and the rumors connect the musical score to some possible locations.
The folks at That Videogame Blog heard from a source that Activision has been looking to license music for Call of Duty 7, and it seems that they were looking for Vietnam War era tunes for the score. The same source said that they were also wanting Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music.
Finally, the source said that Call of Duty: World at War’s senior producer Noah Heller is tied to the project, which points to this being a Treyarch-developed title.
TVGB reminds that Heller himself said last year that future Call of Duty games would show the final battles of the Pacific and European Theatre, letting them put the whole string of World War II games to an end. This makes the rumor sound that much more solid.
We thought we'd poke Activision to see what they said about this. Here's the official comment we received just now:
Activision doesn’t comment on rumor and speculation.
Of course you don't, Activision.
Anyways, Treyarch is making this, so I won't even give it a try.
How about the American Revolution? or the American Spanish War? The Barbary War?
and @ Chronic Logic - I know you're being facetious, but the Barbary Wars would be completely awesome, someone desperately needs to make a FPS Napoleonic War Age of Sail game (niche much?).
It would be good if there was a "cold war setting". But apart from the Korea War, and the Vietnam war, what famous Cold-War era battles were there that involved large numbers (50,000+) of US troops? None that I can think of. It would be interesting if it explored the Cold War from other perspectives, like as a Soviet Soldier in Afghanistan, but who wants to go around to village after village, killing civilians (which is pretty much what the russians did in that country).
Unless they make up crap, I don't think a Call of Duty game about the Cold War would be very good - both sides did terrible things to civilians. It's not like in WW2, where you could genuinely support the US/UK/Russian/Chinese forces, because they got attacked first, but in Vietnam or Cambodia, Cuba or Laos or in many of the small proxy wars that took place in Africa between Soviet and American backed factions, there wasn't much heroism or idealism.
Hell yeah... seven kill streak and you can call in the break dancers. Then each side will have to have a break-off.
as for Cuba well thats a new theater that hasn't been explored in i video game that i can remember, that could be cool.
I'd liek to see this get delayed, and have the best of both studios, as this could actually be a very compelling setting(s)
The only decent Vietnam game was Battlefield Vietnam. I liked it.
