Rumortoid: Bungie developing an iPhone game photo

Ever since the firmware update allowed me to make lightsaber sounds by swinging around my iPhone, I have been pondering the vast possibilities of games and applications on the device. One thing that I haven’t considered is a game being developed by Bungie. This latest Bungie rumor isn’t as juicy as pulled footage, but it still sounds cool. According to PocketGamer, the developer recently gave all of its employees free iPhones. Of course, the natural conclusion to such a gift isn’t that the company was just rewarding its talented developers. It’s the possibility that the gift may be prepping the team for a run at development on the device.

Of course, there is absolutely zero substantiation to this at all. It’s just a pleasant thought to have. My experience with iPhone applications thus far has shown me that the iPhone is capable of having prettier and smarter games. The only problem is that the games are ultimately still cell phone games. They’re designed from the outset to be simple and only slightly challenging. In other words, I wouldn’t expect Marathon or a Halo title.

Would you guys like to see Bungie jump on the iPhone train? What do you think they could create? Or do you think the developer just needs to keep working on its big boy titles instead?

A Buzz like trivia game would rock on the iPhone. Imagine playing that against other iPhone users.

with my expierience with the app store so far, i think that Bungie could make a great game quite easily

Irony? First of all, I don't think this could be classified as "irony" at all. Second, Bungie started out as an Apple developer; I remember playing Bungie games on my Mac long before Microsoft had anything to do with them.

I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see Bungie put out an iPhone game. It's probably cheap to develop for, has a large install base (iPhone + iPod touch), and Bungie has a history of developing games for Apple platforms.

I think if I owned an iPhone I would be excited about this, but since I don't (and don't plan on doing so any time soon) I can't say this piques any of my interests. Unless, of course, the announcement was so big it MADE me buy one (and switch service providers at the same time).

You could make a nice strategy game, like a fancy Advance Wars. Iphone games can be really good - look at Aurora Faint (which is FREE) and be sure that there WILL be very good games as long as you design for the fact that your big fat finger will obscure the view at times.

Why do all yous guys have the little dancing girl avatar? Are you in a club?

I have a 'touch, so this is interesting for me. Can't wait to see what they do, though the author is probably right in that this will likely be a simple cell phone game.

as if they would. be able to i mean. microsoft has shoved themselves so far up bungie's ass that every time they shit it has to pass they're approval. (read: stopping announcement of new game at e3)

have any of you guys played Brothers in Arms on the iphone?

I have, it's AMAZING!!! I never knew a mobile game could be so incredible, and an FPS game nonetheless.

i think that Halo on the iPhone is not so unbeleivable... don't get your hopes up, but I'm getting mine up :)
