Rumortoid: Beatles Rock Band game coming up photo

Earlier today, we received a press release saying that both Apple Corps and MTV were "to announce an exclusive agreement to develop a global music project." Seeing as how two of the listed PR people in this press release were directly related to Rock Band, we pieced things together quickly. The two could only be working on a Beatles game, right? Maybe? Well, we combined this with rumors that we heard earlier this year on the very same topic to come to our conclusion.

The Wall Street Journal got the jump on this. They say that the Beatles have licensed songs to MTV Network's Rock Band games, according to "several people familiar with the matter."

We still don't know any details. This could be a Beatles-only game, or just the addition of songs. We'll know tomorrow when a conference call goes down.

You can take a gander at the press release below to judge for yourself.

Apple Corps Ltd. and MTV to Announce Exclusive Agreement to Develop Unprecedented Global Music Project

WHAT: Apple Corps Ltd. and MTV to announce an exclusive agreement to develop a global music project.

WHO: Jeff Jones, CEO of Apple Corps, Ltd. Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks Van Toffler, President of MTV Networks Music/Logo Group

WHEN: Thursday, October 30, 2008 2:00 pm UK Time, 10:00 am ET, 7:00 AM PT

So...now it's Harmonix' turn to copy Neversoft? It had better not be a Beatles' exclusive game, that would make me sick...like GH:Metallica sick.

I think we can all forgive them for "cashing" in on a band specific title update if it for the beatles.

I don't really like the beatles, but if its exclusive, then good for Rock Band. It is the better game.

From Fox News

"The word is that this "Rock Band" game will "blow away" all the others. It should include classics like "Revolution," "Helter Skelter," and "Hey Jude." The Beatles never license their master recordings for anything, especially movies or TV. Putting together "Rock Band" with their songs is a coup for MTV's Judy McGrath and Van Toffler, and shows that Apple Corps' Jeff Jones is set to bring the Beatles into the 21st century."

I really hope that these are downloadable tracks, or if not, then at least it works like the upcoming AC/DC live pack, where you have to buy it separately but can import it into the game. In fact, I suppose that might need to be the way to go to secure tracks from hard-to-license bands.

Here's hoping mainly for more of their later work instead of the too-easy-to-choose tracks from their first few CDs.

I hope that it's just songs for the game. I mean it's cool you can take the songs from the ac/dc rock band and add them to the normal rb2 game but there is not reason not just to make them dlc. It's obviously just a money making attempt that they are learning form activision.

Ugh, even if I were a huge Beatles fan, which I am about the farthest thing from, I have trouble seeing how playing these songs would actually be fun. They're not very complex and most are really slow. I hated playing Radiohead so I can't imagine playing through Beatles tracks.

This is awesome. I can't wait to play all of the shitty, sappy love songs from their early career.

I'm being totally sincere, I really enjoy those songs that everyone immediately writes off. Fuck it, they're fun.
