Rumortoid: Another Sonic retro compilation headed to PS3/Xbox 360?

Rumortoid: Another Sonic retro compilation headed to PS3/Xbox 360? photo
     Sonic

If you love your Xbox 360/PS3 but felt it was lacking one special ingredient, then Sega may just have the answer you're looking for -- yes, we could once again be receiving a long overdue Sonic the Hedgehog retro compilation. It must have been, what, a year or more since Sega's last retro comp?

Surfacing from the murky depths of the oft-trawled retail listings, rumor fishermen have dredged up a potential Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection in the works for current-gen systems. Never mind the fact that you can already purchase Genesis-era Sonic games for nearly every system under the sun ... there's always money to buy them all over again.

Still, one can't help but find bitter irony in how eager Sega is to at once embrace its past for cheap bucks, then sh*t all over that selfsame past with its more recent Sonic offerings. I <3 me some Sega, but come on. Stop destroying our memories of the good old days, then offering a chance to have those days back for a price. That's the kind of thing heroin dealers do.

Sort of.

[Thanks, Brian]

It'd be cool as a downloadable title and in HD. Hopefully it'll include Chaotix and SA1.

Sega really should go the Capcom route of BCR and remake sonic 1 or 2 with pretty 3D graphics add some minor updates and put it out on XBLA

I already have the GCN collections as well as my original cartridges. What point is there for these to exist?! There better be some HD remakes. Sonic 3 & Knuckles HD. Mmmmm.

Not going to lie, I'd buy the compilations over again. But in all fairness, I still have not played Sonic CD so I can justify the purchase.

As long as it at least has every Sonic game from Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and possibly some of them from Sonic Gems Collection, I'll buy it, no problem. Then I'd just have to find a good D-pad controller. >_>

This rumor is based in fantasty. There's no possible way this could ever happen.

@ superzekiel: Based in fanTASTY? I not sure what that is, but I bet it's delicious.

I find that the best collections are the collections that have games that weren't already released in previous collections. I'm fucking deep, man.

They only way I can even see this as being a rent is if they at least at a LOT of online content.

I mean more than just co-op Sonic 2. This may sound lame, but I'd hope for online versus and leaderboards of Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters, as crappy as they were.

You don't know Sega very well, do you?

All I know is that there better be some fucking SoR games on that disk or heads will roll (offer not valid where prohibited by law, see store for details, if itching occurs please discontinue use and see a physician and remember always threaten random people from thousands of miles away responsibly).

So this doesn't apply to the 360 DVDs, but the Blu-Ray would have a lot of space to fill... maybe along with stuff like Sonic CD and SegaSonic The Hedgehog Arcade [that they haven't re-released before], they could put the Sonic Adventure / Advance games on there?

It'd be very nice if they upped the 2D ones to HD, but I bet they won't.

Naughty SEGA, stop being cheap, we all know you need money but dont milk the classics like this, release them on XBLA with super sai x2 graphics filter and claim it as HD, Thats the way to do it.

I've managed to stay away from a Sonic game all this time. Maybe I'll give it a chance, but even then I'm only like, 10% interested.
