Rumortoid: AGENT landing in 2010 photo

At E3 this year the Sony press conference had a bit of very good news for the company. The PS3 would play exclusive host to Rockstar's upcoming game AGENT. Those in attendance saw the word agent pop up on the screen and heard a few words about it being exclusive. That was pretty much it. Eventually we learned it was an action game (way to narrow it down) and that it took place in the realm of international spying during the the 1970s. Also, Rockstar says it'll probably resemble the second coming of Christ when it comes out.

But when shall the savior be reborn? Considering the fact that absolutely nothing except for a logo has been shown of the game and that Rockstar likes to nail its games as close to perfection as they can it would be a safe assumption that that date might be some time in 2011. However, according to a community question and answer session on GTA IV at Rockstar's website AGENT is on track to be a 2010 release.

After being begged that the DLC hit the PS3 Rockstar responded with, "We appreciate the enthusiasm of PlayStation 3 owners and believe us, we understand where you're coming from.  That's why we are working hard on a lineup of PlayStation 3 releases for 2010 that we know you will be very excited to play - including Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, and the PlayStation 3 exclusive AGENT, which is a brand-new title from Rockstar North, the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series.  Plus there's more yet to be announced...  Thanks again for your patience and please stay with us!"

Probably not the most shocking news, but still good news none the less. Of course the next post on the game will be a rumortoid about its delay until 2012, but let's be happy for now.

[Thanks, spector26]

It's always nice to see a large development studio reply to its user base, corporate and typical the response may have been. I'm a Rockstar fanboy, I can't wait to see what comes out of this new IP.

Jack Tretton mentioned the game back in 2007. So I wouldn't be surprised if R* North were working on it back then in-between GTAIV's final push.

I wonder for how long this will remain "exclusive". They'll probably release it on the PC and Xbox 360 later on.

I hope the exclusivity-deal is only time-limited...but I fear it is not...or Microsoft just pays Sony to get the freakin game...

Different game.

Good to see Rockstar even out the sides. 360 gets dlc, we get a new game. Fair trade.

I just wish we had more information on the game.

What makes you think that?

That's vague enough to work.

Hmmm I'm a little skeptical about the quality of this upcoming game. Didn't they start production basically around the time it was announced? Is that long enough to make a quality ps3-only game? Just seems like ps3-only games take more time.

@dolfwood

It really depends how long it has been in pre-production. I am sure the script for it has already been written long ago.They are probably going to use their very own RAGE engine for the graphics, so most of the legwork associated with graphics has already been done. Voice recording, sound, music, motion capture, and of course play testing is all that's really left that can be considered as major. Knowing rockstar's talent, these can all be done quite quickly!! :)

Oh, and as another dtoider mentioned, it's probably has been in production longer then just a couple of months. I have read rumours about a ps3 only game from Rockstar for about a year and a half.

@Infinite Combo

Partly true, Roackstar have stated that, at least, this game is a PS3 only exclusive, but future iterations probably will be for other platforms. Like the Mass effect situation, number 1 was a 360 game, but 2, I think, is coming out for the PS3! :)

I hope so. According to the Sept. issue of GameInformer, the rumor is that Rockstar apparently slapped an idea together last minute when Sony came knocking on their door to see how progress was coming along. As for Mass Effect 2 on ps3, idk. Bioware won't outright deny it despite being hounded to either confirm or deny it. That combined with the Dragon Age: Origins description on amazon.com for ps3 leads me to believe it's a definite possibility. States that the ps3 version will come with a code that unlocks an exclusive item for Mass Effect 2... hmmm... Don't get me wrong though, the chances of it being amazon's fault for typing the ad wrong is most likely at fault. But sometimes the retail do let secrets slip.

Oooh, that doesn't sound too good, there is a possibility that is was a just for presentation purposes, and/or a update on how things are, but I will definitely treat this game more cautiously from now on. Thanks for the info!

Oh, and the ME2 situation, indeed that is also up in the sky, like you said, with other Bioware games being released for the PS3 (and having stuff for other games by Bioware), it does point to the rather real possibility of ME2 on the PS3.
