Rumortoid: Activision working on Jimi Hendrix-centric Guitar Hero game? photo

Boy, videogame PR people must hate musicians -- they just can’t keep their mouths shut. Nearly three months ago, The Offspring jumped the gun on a Rock Band DLC announcement, listing six songs that still haven’t appeared on the Rock Band Music Store. Now, it seems that Slash -- guitarist of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, and Guitar Hero III boss battle participant -- has preemptively spilled the beans on a future Guitar Hero game focused around rock pioneer Jimi Hendrix.

In an interview in Rolling Stone, Slash was asked about Guitar Hero:

I talked to Steven Tyler recently and he said you were a big inspiration for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
He called me about it before they did it and I was like, “You gotta do it.” It’s cool actually ’cause I was the first real face on that game, and it’s sort of taken on a life of its own.

As the original guy do you feel more invested in the game?
Well, having the Aerosmith guys do it was very cool ’cause Aerosmith’s one of the bands I was heavily influenced by. And Metallica’s doing it, that’s great. Those are two ones that I think gives it some credibility. And they’re doing a Hendrix one, which is great.

We’ve unofficially known for a while now that Guitar Hero: Metallica is coming sometime next year. And Hendrix himself will be a playable character in the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour (the game will also feature two of his songs, in addition to 81 others). But this is the first we’ve heard of a Guitar Hero: Aerosmith analog featuring the legendary live-fast-die-young guitarist. Are you ready to be experienced in the music of Jimi Hendrix?

Wow, I’m sorry...that was egregious.

I'm betting Slash is a little confused about Jimi being a playable character in the next GH.

This was expected, at least from me. Expect to see Guitar Hero whored out to the ends of the Earth.

Yes! Give us more versions of Guitar Hero! The market isn't flooded enough.

Thank you Activision.

Now kindly go fuck yourself.

I hate Activision so much and am the most vocal hater of Guitar Hero World Tour on Dtoid (if I do say so myself,) but if this comes true and the note charts aren't God-awful I will get this on day one. DAY. ONE.

Hendrix is timeless, I've loved his music ever since I first heard it. If this is true I'll get it day 1 for sure.

Well, this is nice. It certainly is a way to get me to bite.

It's inspired me to write a shortblog, similarly related.

Hendrix is grand.

Just fucking make it as DLC for World Tour. I don't need 4 games to constantly switch between.

Hendrix revolutionised how the Guitar was played, But he wasn't a great guitarist. Cobain is the same, except didn't change Guitar playing at alll, and sucked at Guitar.

Why can't the developers who actually give a shit about music be doing justice to Hendrix, rather than GH raping his legacy?

Blah Blah Blah hating on Guitart Hero, but seriously, they release in Australia and make Jimi Hendrix games?
WIN in my books
It's actually long awaited, I know there was alot of controversy because of the fact that Jimi Hendrix's family has alot of issues with his work being represented officially when it wasnt performed by him or something. I dont know the legalities of it all, I just know there was issues prior to this
