Rumortoid: 250GB PS3 Slim coming in October photo

Back in mid-August Nick "I ride Ruins" Chester told us all of an impending 250GB model of the PS3 Slim that was uncovered thanks to an FCC filing. He then used his Nostradamus like skills to predict that a slew of retailer leaks, pricing speculations, and phony advertisements designed in Photoshop by sad people who think they're clever would be coming. Lo, he spoke the truth. Book 1 of The Chester Prophecies has come true and a retailer has leaked the launch window of the 250GB Slim.

Eurogamer was told by a UK retailer that the upcoming model "is a definite for October." This backs up two other tips they received on the matter from other retailers. No information on what the bundles will include for sure, though a bundle with Fifa 10 has been leaked and an Assassins Creed II bundle has been rumored. The source says that Sony is planning on revealing the bundle/bundles at TGS this year. Sony has, of course, declined to comment on the matter. It should also be noted that these are all European retailers. A Fifa bundle in the U.S. is pretty unlikely, though possible.

Anyone interested in waiting until October for this or are you all rushing out to get your Slims now?

That header made me laugh. So loud that the entire train station stopped and stared at me.

I'm pretty content with my 40GB PS3 that I received for free. Though, I maayy trade it in for something like this. Maybe.

Maayyybeee.

The PS3 is sooooo easy to upgrade a new HDD. $80 later and I have a 1TB HDD, that's 1000GB for those who don't know.

Something like this is obviously for the less educated about computer hardware.

Makes me wonder why they don't just blow M$ out of the water on, "who offers the bigger hdd." since they could easily offer free vouchers or something.

@ dwolfwood

I'm one of the uneducated. Does the harddrive fit in regularly in the PS3, or is it external?

Hmm, I dunno. I don't care about BC but as of right now it's the only reason I can justify not nabbing the current Slim.

As has been said before the HDD is such an easy upgrade Sony could probably save money by just producing one Slim, one Phat, and introducing more people to the idea of buying a new HDD and just introduce larger versions of those.

That would suck if you were one of "those people" that actually waited and paid extra for 250 gb.

I purchased a 160gb system in late August after I discovered the price drop was effective IMMEDIATELY after the announcement. Now there's this. Why God? Why?... However, if this 250gb system comes equipped with the TiVo-like abilities... I'm not quite sure why, but I WOULD buy another PS3. If not for 2 blu-ray players.

Also, that picture is *faptacular*

@ Timtheterrible - Any 2.5" laptop drive SATA1 or 2 will fit inside the PS3. The PS3 will recognize any external drive formatted any way BUT NTFS.

I'm betting on AC2, Uncharted 2, GT5 and possibly EyePet Bundles. There's also that rumor of a PlayTV Bundle as well.

I've been trying that for years now... I've tried almost every site/contest/auction/GODIWANTONENOW that you could enter and honestly, I've actually put forth more money towards trying to win one that I could have bought one instead...

Considering that the price difference will be $50-$100, I find it pretty worthless since switching out a harddrive might be cheaper than spending the extra $100.

You can get a 320GB hard drive for $70, plus you get to use the old one as an external or something.

*sigh* I wish the PS3 worked upon a £:GB ratio, then it'd be easier to justify getting one.

Actually, I'm fairly sure the largest you can currently buy of a 2.5' HDD is 500GB.

I think it's just down to the physical size of the drive. Some 2.5" sata hdd's are 12.5mm, but the PS3 will only take 9mm drives. I don't think it's an actual size limitation from the PS3. It's down to the amount of platters, & with 2.5 drives being so small, fitting enough platters inside for the larger capacity is a challenge.

Although, I recently read that one of the HDD manufacturers (not sure which) have just shown or released a 9mm 1TB 2.5" hard drive, so it is theoretically possible.....

....I think.

Terabyte 2.5"'ers have been around for a few months at least.

$80.00 might be stretching the plausability rating of that statement a bit tho.......

Nah you can buy at least 1TB, I got one in mine. Paid $80 for it from buy.com I put one in cause 2 friends had already done the same and said how awesome/easy it was.

Didn't mean to sound all arrogant about it, but there's a simple bright orange, 3-step instruction paper that came included with my ps3 on how to change the hdd. I guess people don't realize how easy it is to upgrade your ps3 hdd until after they buy it since sony doesn't market that as a selling point.

If you do it when you first buy it, it's easy but otherwise you gotta go through a bunch of crap to transfer all your data from the original hdd.

Can we start calling the 250 GB PS3 the "PS3 Chubby"? Please?

I bought a 120 GB Slim when it came out, and I'm happy with it. It is a feature of the PS3 that you can upgrade the drive yourself with any old 2.5". I'll probably take that $100 I could've spent on the Chubby and buy a PS2 so I can finally play Ico and Shadows of the Colossus.

I read this and thought "will buy" - but then on second thoughts I could head to play.com buy a 320gb HDD for £40 and shove it in the bottom of my Launch model-Backwards-compatible-many-usb-slotted-memory-card-reading black box-o-blu-ray.
