Why wouldn't they have solid hardcore 3rd Party games? If the system is more powerful than the current generation of console, than why wouldn't 3rd Party's want to jump on that? The 360 came out a year before the PS3, and yes the PS3 is more powerful than the 360, but developers got use to developing for the 360 first, which is why the 360 is still the lead SKU for most developers to this day. If Nintendo can come out first with the "significantly more powerful system" than developers are going to want to develop for it.
Why do you think Nintendo is shopping it around now, to all these major western publishers? HD games take a long time to make, so getting to 3rd party's 18 months out from launch means that they want major 3rd Party support. Nintendo finally having a HD systems, means that they will most likely get all the major 3rd Party games. I don't get how people think that 3rd Party's are apposed to making more money, just because its a Nintendo console. They will put their games on a freaking toaster, if it was powerful enough to run them.
Do you really think that Activision wouldn't like to add 2, or 3 million units more to they're Call of Duty sales? If they can released a great game on all HD consoles, to make even more money, than why wouldn't they? They're not going to say: No we don't need it on Nintendo's new HD console, because the 360, and PS3 are enough HD consoles for us. Having good 3rd Party support will happen, because why wouldn't 3rd Party's want to put out 3 HD versions of the same game? Than port it to the NGP/PC/maybe even the 3DS. Money rules the industry, not butt hurt fanboys!
"the all-new controller's screen will have touch capability"
The fuck? Maybe the 3DS will have connectivity with 2Wii2Furious? I dunno.
Anyways, if these rumors are true, then Nintendo's really cooking up something. Only tiem vill tell, though.
*Also, in regards to the Wii backwards compatiability, it'll probably just be able to connect with the Wii's motion sensor and use the Wiimote, Nunchuck, etc. etc. What would it mean for data already on the Wii, though?
Then the two markets could cross pollinate as far as hype, be backwards compatible and already have a huge preexiting user base
And I know some people will say the the Wii also has a standard controller, but almost all games require the Wii-mote and nunchuck attachment. At least the 360 and PS3 give you the *option* to control games by traditional means. If motion controls are forced upon me, I'm not interested.
it was clearly said "significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360". which part of this makes it same as PS3 at launch?
If the shader model version is correct then we are talking dx10.1 quality graphics or better. Equivalent or superior to nvidia 290\ati equivalent series with full HD 1080p games (not 720p like most current gen console games... PS3 is not even full shader model 3.0 compatible) and once again unique yet familiar controller design and god knows what other features.
On top of that if rumours are to be believed games are already under development which gives them plenty of time until xmas 2012!!
Considering that publishers stopped producing many games for wii since late last year that means they knew about it. and that they halted production to make games on the new console regardless if that meant a lot of money lost. That means a hell lot of confidence and support! So it has to be something truly amazing. "Nintendo's plans sound unreal," one source said.
How is that even comparable to PS3 or 360?
On the other hand sony and MS are locked for at least the next 2-3 years to their current gen if they don't want to exit this generation with huge losses hoping that they will make it back in the next round.
I think though that we are not going to see anything even at E3 but maybe only hear about it and maybe see some footage. Nintendo knows that hawks are ready to copy.

As for the price, nintendo now is so stocked with cash being the most succesful game company for the last 5 years, that they might not have a problem to play the sony game and even choose to sell the hardware at a slight loss in order to make it affordable.
will they make it? will they unite the world of gaming?
if someone can, it definitely is nintendo.
Anyways, I hope they go truly next-gen, instead of like, DX10 graphics or something stupid like that. That would be a BIG help with their their party dev ties to stay close to MS and Sony's next-gen graphics, and it would be great to put all their money to use. Who knows, though, with the tragedy that struck Japan...that must have hurt their stocks somehow, right? Well here's to you, Nintendo. Keep up the good work, and I'll be rooting for you at E3!
@manasteel88 I guess so. They couldn't recapture the hardcore market on the Wii right now because it's so far along with the "family friendly" reputation, and the console limitations. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually kept the same kind of online system they've been using, but I'm sure they could do better with the ties to the third-party devs.
