Interesting choice if its true.. and a very good one at that. I mean, the idea of needing "memory cards" is kinda dated and all, but we all probably have a bunch of SD cars lying around we can use -and if not, they're cheap (much cheaper then another companies proprietary fair...)
Not so sure if I believe they'd let you use an external HDD though, seems like something Nintendo (and really any console maker at this point) would be against
I don't know why they couldn't put at least 32gb of flash storage. A 32GB SD card can be found for about $25 now if you look around.

They are keeping costs down. 8 gigs is enough for game saves and a few smaller downloadable games like Virtual Console and WiiWare games, and like you said, SDCards are cheap, fast, and supported out of the box.
It also supports SDXC cards, meaning 64GB cards. If you can also buy and install games on an external HDD, then the whole storage "issue" is moot; they are cheaper by the GB that XBox 360 HDDs, and about on par with the 2.5 drives used on the PS3.
3 Broadway cores ? Do anybody knows what Broadway cores are ?
A Broadway core is 725mhz,90nm architecture.
That doesn't provide as half as power as an xbox360 core, and is using too much electricity to operate because it's too old technology.
Thats the only thing about this report that seems suspect to me, really. Both Nintendo and IBM have said that the Wii U will be using a POWER7 based CPU.
"Both those consoles will be using probablay Direct X-11"
I can assure you the PS4 will never use DirectX of any kind.
...unless they are bought by Microsoft.
You're making a small mistake comparing the transfer speed of an internal drive to an external one in this case.
Well, it is probably wrong to say "mistake" as well. It's more like "look at it from another angle".
You'll be playing big games off of a Disk Drive, and hopefully you won't need to install any files to play them in the first place.
For digitally distributed games, they will ether not be bigger than the RAM, or load off from the HDD with a similar transfer rate than from a Disk, so you should not notice any difference.
No, that's good enough for CURRENT fen, certainly not next gen. Next gen will make this look like, well a wii
I'm not seeing how people are seeing these specs as "next gen". I guess they sound pretty high tech. We'll see.

No its not. Its cpu is significantly weaker. Only 3 cores vs ps3s 9 and 360s 6. And a slower speed too, and its apples to apples since they're all powerpc based
We only had one person (the Tekken Guy, Harada) commenting on the clock speed, which seems to be low. So....this rumor can be thrown out of the window !
just keep lubing up those pistons, boys!
You mean the Cell in Ps3: 1 normal core and 7 slave cores/co processors, of which one is dedicated to OS, leaving 6 for games ?
Or the Xenon CPU: 3 Power PC processors, capable of 2 Threads each ??
Power 7: 4 Thread multithreading....
Yeah, and calling the Cell processor Power directly comparable to the Xenon...is something !
Every console during this current generation has used about half a GB of RAM. The Wii U will be sporting at least double that.
Internal storage? Why complain when you can just get yourself any SD card or external HDD? Why are people upset that Nintendo is not forcing any proprietary crap onto the consumer the way Microsoft did with the 360's early years?
On top of that, its GPU and CPU are most assuredly stronger than what's in current generation console; perhaps not a massive leap but this definitely going to provide some nice looking games.
And at this point, if graphics are so important to you, shut up and build a PC already.
"No DirectX 11, starting on the right foot nintendo"
Do yuo even UNDERSTAND what you're complaining about?
DirectX is a Microsoft API! Support for this in a non-Microsoft platform IS USELESS!
That means the Wii U can't even use DirectX 1-10!
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
I think the iPads have better graphical capability than this these days. And more internal storage too.
That is an inaccurate view on CPU's. The PS3 does not have 9 cores, the 360 does not 6 cores, and they are not directly comparable because they're variants of PowerPC. The Cell is extremely different from Xenon. Also, even if that were the case there is more to consider than just core count. Bandwith, caches, transistor count, blah blah blah.
Also, isn't this like the 3rd time Wii U specs have been "confirmed"? I'll tell you thing that's right about this though, the Wii U won't have DirectX11, because it won't use DirectX at all. It doesn't matter what they put in there, unless the Wii U has a Microsoft OS it won't have DirectX. It will be using OpenGL (like the PS3, except probably a newer version); which in all honesty most things should use in the first place over DirectX. They accomplish essentially the same things; except OpenGL can go anywhere and DirectX is exclusive to Windows OS's (though, DirectX gives access to some features of Windows).
Comparable to how Apple products, it has it's appeal, the software but the hardware is not best of the best. Doesn't make it a bad product.
I don't think Nintendo has a clear plan that works for Japan that works for N. American and Europe too. Nintendo fans are tired and brittle...they want to hope... but even coming out so strong with Wii turned to ashes in their mouths this generation. If Wii U does not providing 'games' over the long term fans will sour. We all know it will sell at launch, but in two, three, or four years after the launch will the system still be viable? I don't see the system being viable after three years; one year of selling well enough then just month after month declines punctuated with brief sales when Ninetndo games arrive while 3rd party games erode.
They spec'd up.
And if your a real gamer you should know specs, arent the most important thing ( most of the time the least important thing)
being able to store all your games and downloads etc on an external defeats the purpose of the system even having its own storage...
seems kinda odd to me.
