Yep, sounds like something I want from a next-gen system. And don't you guys say it's not a next-gen system, or that 'generations don't apply anymore'.
This is a system that's being sold 5 or 6 years after the last one.
The Wii U can clearly set itself apart from current-gen hardware, if the developers dedicate time to improving their ports.
I'll get it either way, 'cause I miss having a Nintendo console in the household!
Anyway, Wii U! WOOOO!!!!
Seriously? It's 2012 right? Not 2002?
But who needs looks when you have a shit version of Arkham City months after the fact!
Hell look at all the issues Bethesda is having with getting their expansion on the PS3 because of some oddball tech specs.
This well could be sufficient but it just as well might not.
Smart phones have 2gb of RAM and 32gb of storage now; however, that blurb about allowing external hard drives is a nifty one.
For Nintendo' sake I hope the Broadway cores can....
Put on a good show.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Well as a primarily PC kiddie, the nice thing about consoles is that they can go with less ram because they don't have a bunch of bulk slogging them down. Well at least they used to not have all that crap bogging them down ...... these days its anyone's game :P
On the other hand Consoles also seem to underestimate how much ram they will need in the future and tend to hit their ceiling rather quickly.
I'm going to bang my head into a wall for a few hours.
when I'm back we'll be on even levels.
This system is significantly more powerful than the PS3 or 360. It probably won't be very close to matching the next Microsoft or Sony system in terms of specs though. But that's how Nintendo rolls. The Wii was great. Give me good games and you'll get a good customer.
I tried to think of another reason, but couldn't. I have absolutely no reason to buy this thing....UNLESS, Nintendo makes sure all games on it run at full 1080p. That would be enough to convince me to buy it. I am tired of Microsoft lying on the back of their boxes when they put "1080p" on it, when in reality all they are saying is that the game will run on TV's that support that resolution, NOT that the game actually runs in it.
This is why games like Halo 3 have "1080p" on the back of the box, but only runs in sub HD. Sony is much better, since most of there games run in true 720p, unlike Microsoft, and Sony has many more games that actually run in 1080p, but it isn't enough. If Nintendo's console can actually run all their games in full HD, that would be enough to convince me to buy it.
If not, then I officially don't want the thing.
I certainly hope not...
@mr Dixon
8gb is enough for a few small games, or a wiiu game or two.
I'm sure they will offer huge sd cards/ hd to be compatible.
Gotta keep costs down for those of us who don't want to download a whole bunch of games.
@Andy
Personally I'm glad that they don't force a huge HDD on the consumer, sort of like the 4 GB 360. Makes it cheaper unless you want to go completely digital.

1GB of RAM that applications can use.
Meaning that it probably has something like 1.5GB total, but 512MB or whatever is used by the OS.
In total, that would be 3 times more RAM than Xbox 360 and PS3.
The disappointment is the 8GB of storage. I don't think that's enough for downloadable Gamecube games. Should have been 16GB instead, just to meet that threshold at least.
It allows for you to attach ANY external hard drive
I have a 1tb all ready to attach.
isnt that what people wanted?
HOWEVERRRRRRRRR if you really can attach any kind of external harddrive via USB port, I am extremely impressed. Kudos to Nintendo to taking a huge step forward, unlike Microsoft and Sony which seem content in forcing users to buy their overpriced proprietary memory.
