Good news for people like me who find enjoyment in gamerscores and such, just wish it had happened before Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

I'm surprised to hear it wasn't already this high, especially since XBLA games often go for around 1/3 of the price of a retail so having 1/3 of Gamerscore makes sense.
But seriously, that's great for all the people who love achievements. More power to them. It's just not my cup of tea.
I wasn't aware that there was a cap on these things. But I also don't own an Xbox. I do love mah cheevs though.
Can't say I'm one for gamerscore, but achievements have definitely helped me get more life out of some of my old games, as I'm a bit of a whore for the '100% complete' page on the Xbox Dash.
It's about time they updated this. At this point, though, I don't think there should be any distinction between retail and download games.

I really do hate achievements. Because I'm addicted to them... I'm seriously worried that a continuation of my current achievements over to the next generation of consoles could bias my next console purchase... :(

As a moderate achievement whore (who knows he shouldn't be one) those damn windows phone games seemed to really devalue arcade games when Microsoft made the 1 dollar smartphone games also worth 200 points. Now it seems like the minimum price for any arcade game is 1200 damn microsoft points, they better start increasing the limit.
I personally couldn't care less about my gamerscore, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the sound it makes when I unlock an achievement...
I enjoy achievements and actively seek out doing them (which is part of why it takes me so long to get through a game -case in point, DX:HR is taking me forever it feels like) because it makes me play outside my comfort zone or just plain makes me do things I would have never knew you could do in a game.
However, I kinda don't know if I like this all that much. I mean, most XBL games, no matter how much bigger they've been getting, have seriously shitty achievements as its, I can't really see them getting better simply because there could be more of them.
Take I AM ALIVE for example.. Checking out the achievements while playing the demo, I can say for certain that Ubisoft really didn't give a shit (big surprise) what kind of achievements they put you through in the game, because they pretty much all sounded like things you were going to do any way.

So I don't know.. Most of the time Arcade achievements are far too lackluster to really get excited about, I don't see more being an improvement when developers seem to be lazy about how they implement them in this type of game.

Makes sense. XBLA games all used to be $5-$10 (I miss those days), so the 200GS and 12 achievement limit fit. I know they changed it to 20 achievements and added the extra 50 for DLC, but it's still not enough.
Now 400GS and 30 achievements when most new games are $15-$20, makes sense. Especially when $60 games have 1000GS and 50 achievements that can essentially be expanded without limit via DLC post Halo 3.

Well, for the people that play to get achievements (which is okay, if you enjoy the games too), this would be very nice. Original post is wrong... Current XBLA limit is 350gs. 200gs in the initial release and then 3x 50gs in DLC packages in the same way retail titles are allowed 3x 250gs. I completely agree with Lichtonatus. I love going for the 100% completion on games I really love. I actually told myself I wouldn't buy Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning until I'd 100%'d all 3 Mass Effect games. Kind of a reward for such a challenge.
This is just so they can justify raising the new "normal" XBLA price to 2400 points! MARK MY WORDS!!! You've been warned!

I was just thinking about this. 200 was never enough. Even some of the older games can justify 400 points. The Sonic games, Portal, and a bunch of other games. I like achievements a lot. They give me something to do that I,might not have done otherwise. Me and a couple friends have a compete to get the highest gamerscore.
Here's hoping they can retroactively add new achievements to older games and give me an excuse to replay them. Like Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. They had all that DLC and didn't add a single new cheev... what the heck.
They need to change the Achievement sound and the regular notification sound. I always get messages and friends logging on, and I'm like "ACHIEV--- Dammit."

On a side note..... wouldn't it be cool id gamerscore DID something? Like unlocked avatar gear or gamertag icons or..... anything euperficial and cosmetic? SHIT WAIT A SEC. they charge money for all that. nevermind.
Many games produced for the PC are designed such that technically oriented consumers can modify the game. These mods can add an extra dimension of replayability and interest. Thanks for sharing.
