Makes sense, considering Microsoft's new strategy of integrating their prodcut lines. I would also assume that it will allow PC gamers to play games from the upcoming Xbox as well. As for controller differences, why don't they just make the X360 Controller the PC standard... it is already the best PC controller anyways.

So M$ is adding another subscription ON TOP OF LIVE? That's complete bullshit. When I read it last night I didn't see the part about subscription I was like "Hey, cool. Now I can play the 360 titles I never got to and Microsoft can increase software sales before 720 launches!". But NOOOOOOOO. They had to be greedy about it. No sale from me.
Why not just let it connect to Xbox live and require 360 controllers? If that was the case.... Well damnit that would be cool

Aren't most X-Box games multiplat with the PC anyway? I mean I've got Mass Effect, Arkham Asylum, Left 4 Dead 2, and so on playable on this this via STEAM.

You'll immediately notice two things. First, this seems to be just some dude's blog. There's not even any comments. Second, it doesn't say Win8 will play 360 games. It says Win8 will have xbox live. @GameQueen, this is for the people who don't want to buy two of the same game on different platforms. I would find it a lot easier popping in my Copy of Borderlands in my PC disc drive and playin it from Windows 8 than, rather, buying it on steam and bringing it up on Steam.
Not only would a move like thi help gamers save money, it could actually lead to some beautiful things in the cross platform market, such as....oh I don't know some PC players VS 360 players in a high profile 360 shooter like Halo or something :L

.. possibly the rumour arose from Microsoft's merging of their "games for windows" marketplace to the Xbox site?
Win 8 is designed to be coompletely ubiquitious in that the same OS will work on tablets as well as PCs. I'm sure they're going to throw in as much social networking as possible, particularly Live.

Of course it won't replace the xbox 360, but it's got an interesting use: playing the single-player campaign of some console exclusives, for instance: Vanquish and Red Dead Redemption.
Besides, most xbox 360 games with a relevant online component are usually launched on pc(I know Gears of war 2 and 3 aren't avaliable on pc, that's why I said "most" and not "all").
I just hope that devs don't become lazy because of that. I can already see the excuse: "you can easily play it on Windows 8 by paying a small subscription fee, so we decided not to port the game to pc".

Why the fuck would you have separate servers? If you're playing 360 games, require a 360 controller and be done with it.

This makes a lot of sense, since there's been rumors already that the next XBox console would be running a version of Windows 8. It could be one of those things where all the abilities are in the software, but only certain versions of the software 'unlock' them. Now sure, that's just gonna cause rampant cracking of the OS, but having one software package that works on any hardware is a lot easier than a half dozen versions of the same OS.
I have a feeling MS will charge a fee for adding certain permissions on certain hardware. It's an easy way of charging monthly fees for letting your phone/xbox/PC/tablet communicate and share between each other. Course they could just be nice and have the compatibility be free... but you know MS would never do that.

Not gonna happen. XBox360 runs on a PowerPC. So Windows8 would need to have a PowerPC Emulator just for running 360 games. Which would be dog-slow.

I don't see how this would be at all technically feasible. Emulating the GPU could happen, but you would need a beast of a processor to emulate the CPU.
I think a modern high end pc could emulate the xbox360 if its coded properly with knowledge only microsoft possesses. It would be hard but I wouldn't call it impossible.
I think its more likely that they include the xbox with remote desktop, sony did the same on the ps3 and a few of there laptops with remote play so that wouldnt actually be that strange.

Basically the only ones who would have computers strong enough for this kind of emulation to decently work on are the ones labelled on this site as pc elitists...
Im calling BS cause even running ps2 emulation for certain games can still be a bitch on a quadcore proccesor with a decent graphics card.Plus you have to take into account the fact that the emulation needs to run on alot of different types of hardware. PC hardware moves fast but not this fast....
Its just not as simple as throwing enough raw power at it and hope it works.Im not even convinced for the rare and few exclusives the xbox doess have thats not on pc as well that it be worth implementing in their next OS.
