At any rate, those numbers are about what I'd expect the price range to be.
300 additional controllers
350 another one with a game on top, I think
that's at least what I think
Maybe the $350 will come with Wii Remote, Nunchuck, and Hard Drive?
Is my understanding correct or am I missing something?
What would be cool is if this ran Wii games in HD ala Dolphin PC emulation. If it did that I'd buy it.
"The only reason I want to buy this is because it's a thing that's new."
That's a bad reason to buy anything.
My most anticipated Wii U games currently are Rayman Legends and P-100, though I'm also interested in hearing more about Zombie U. None of those are available on other consoles, and only Rayman is not a new IP.
Fucking drones.
Nintendo operate in their own little universe. You kinda just have to disregard Sony and MS when considering a Nintendo console.
$250 to get Nintendo games in HD , along with a fixed handheld with TV remote functionality is all you need to know really.
Thats actually cheaper than i thought it would be so i question the validity of this rumor
That's seriously the only game that I care about so far announced for the the Wii-U's launch though. Gonna be tough to justify that.
standard Wii U - 250$,
Wii U with a Wiimote+(plus Nunchuck) or a game - 300$,
Wii U with a Wiimote+(plus Nunchuck) and a game - 350$,
anyway, that kind of price warrants launch buy from me. i't will be really hard for sony and MS to compete with nintendo without murdering their own finances given the rumored specs and prices of Xbox3/PS4.
I'm getting:
P-100 (probably not launch but hey), Rayman Legends, Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, and NSMBU. I've played all of them, and I love what I've seen so far. For me, that's enough to get the Wii U at launch.
I did not like what I played of ZombiU, so they'll have to convince me it's worth it at release.
There were multiple SKUs in the old days as well. I pretty clearly remember there being both a "core" Genesis and a Genesis with controllers and a game or something. I also think the NES had a bunch of different bundles. Originally, it came with R.O.B. and Gyromite (and a Zapper I think?). Later releases differed.. considerably.
Wii U "Arcade" (No HDD, just 4-8 GB internal memory) - $250
Wii U "Pro" w/ 120 GB HDD - $300
Wii U "Elite" w/ 250 - 320 GB HDD - $350
I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that "Arcade" = Matte White, "Pro" = Shiny White, and "Elite" = Shiny Black.
I was hoping for a price point starting at $200, but it seems $249 is the new point of entry for Nintendo.
1. hardware doesn't make the console "X" generation system if that was true both psx and ps2 shouldn't be included in 5th and 6th generation by being the weakest systems. and since we all know that the only people masturbating to the sound of "Wii U is 'last gen'" greatest hits CD are sony fanboys, that "point" just became invalid.
the actual hardware specs of Wii U make this point even invalid. let's forget about 3 times the ram of ps3/360(that's also like 3 times faster and more efficient), GPU that is 3-4 generations ahead, 2CPUs with combined 4 cores or the fact that even multiplatform games absolutely kill ps3/360 versions(Mass Effect 3 in NATIVE 1080p, Assassins Creed 3 that was running ENTIRELY from Ram memory on Wii U - so basically no loadings or pop-up IN A SANDBOX GAME).
2. if Nintendo with supposedly "last gen system" like Wii could pull of graphics like Xenoblade, Skyward Swords, The Last Story, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and match what was achieved on 360/ps3 then WHAT THE HELL has both MS, Sony and all the other companies been doing on supposedly much more powerful(aka "next-gen") systems?
Although I agree with you and also hate the "Wii U is last-ten" crowd, the specs you provided are not the ones who have been hinted at by developers.
The Wii U will sport a tri-core CPU, similar to the one on the Xbox 360. Apparently it's a much more recent architecture, but it has a slightly lower clock speed. Recent comments point to 1GB of RAM available for games, so it has twice as much RAM as the PS3/360. The GPU is a R700-series card, which means it belongs to the ATI HD4XXX family. It's one generation ahead of the GPU on the 360 and two generations ahead of the PS3's Nvidia card. It also has DirectX 10.1-like features.
Also, Mass Effect 3 won't be running at 1080p. The developers have confirmed that the game will be rendered at 720p, just like the PS360 version.
The Wii U is a stepping stone between generations. It's a lot more powerful than current-gen hardware, but will pale in comparison to the next Playstation or Xbox. But that's ok, because graphics are just one part of the equation. And they're often the least important part.
$249- 2gb space
$299- 4gb space
$349- 8gb space
You can take this for fact as it is now on the interwebs. Word.
$249 - WiiU + GamePad + Nintendo Land;
$299 - WiiU + GamePad + Nintendo Land + Wiimote/Nunchuk + (probably) small bump in storage space;
$349 - WiiU + GamePad + Nintendo Land + Wiimote/Nunchuk + (probably) bigger bump in storage space + second GamePad/WiiU Pro Controller;
At least it's what I'm hoping for!
