Rumor: 'Wii Select' budget games, Wii price drop photo

Prices slashed! It looks like Nintendo plans to move consoles and games this year, leading into next year when they launch their new console, codenamed Project Cafe. Retail sources tell Kotaku that Nintendo will drop the price of the Wii to $149 this month. This price and timing matches reports from earlier in the year. What's new is that this drop will conincide with a new budget Wii game line called Wii Select.

Wii Select will kick off with $19.99 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Sluggers. Wii Sports will also join the line-up, to be sold separately. The same sources say that Mario Kart Wii will now be bundled with the Wii console, and will be sold for $149 starting May 15th.

Someone's blowing all the fun for Nintendo before E3!

I can finally buy Smash Bros! I kept waiting for a price drop from fifty bucks but it never happened. It's about time.

COOL!!
Still don't want a Wii.
I lost all interest after "project revolution" turned out to be wiik as hell. "Project cafe" does nothing to intrigue. Until theres actual tech demos and pictures of what Nintendo is trying to heave at the general masses with a shovel, anyone who's jumping on board like this is Noahs ark coming to return us to the days of goodness before the wii is totally buying into hype.

Not suprising. Considering Project Cafe it makes sense to squeeze what little remains of the Wii's appeal into sales.

This is amazing!... Or at least, would have been amazing if they did this over a year ago. Anyone who owns a Wii now more than likely already owns these titles, but the price drop is still a nice thought.

I'm expecting Wii sales (software and hardware) to increase exponentially for the remainder of the year on this news alone. This info was 'leaked' deliberately just like the Project Cafe' rumors. #truth

Still is quite lame that there are no good third party games to play this year :(

Bring Super Paper Mario down to $19.99 and we'll call it even Nintendo. I've wanted to buy that game for a long time, but I'm not too fond of the price right now.

@Noir It's not worth even that much. I would GameFly it. I did and finished it to completion within a weekend.

any chance for Metroid Prime Trilogy re-release? i was thinking about getting it for the time when i'll get Wii2(or buy cheap wii), but it was very limited release.
i wonder if Nintendo will start releasing Fatal Frame Captain Rainbow and other wii games unreleased outside japan now or will they update those games as budget priced Wii2 titles.

It's a bit ridiculous that a "Greatest Hits" type program hasn't been already implemented. The MSRP for Super Mario Galaxy (the first one!) is still $50. It's the same case for many of the good Wii games, no matter how old they are.

And I'll be waiting for the $100 Wii before I buy another.

It took them this long to introduce a "players choice" line, better late than never, but I've already bought most of the first party Nintendo games I want. The only 2 left I need are Twilight Princess, and Super Paper Mario
