Transformers: War for Cybertron has easily become my most played game of the year, and I never thought I'd get to say that about a Transformers game. It seems that more playtime is on the cards, too, as details about the first batch of DLC have allegedly surfaced.
According to a leaked bit of marketing spiel, the downloadable content will include two new multiplayer maps, Havoc and Fortress, and two new Escalation mode maps, District and Forsaken. The content will also include brand new character models, including Scattershot and Onslaught. In news that will piss off those who paid $100 for them, it would also appear that the pre-order characters Jazz, Demolisher and Shockwave will also be thrown into the bargain.
This has not officially been announced yet, it's a rumor until then. However, what I will say right now is that as much as I love this game, I will not be buying the DLC. Not until High Moon Studios puts in some form of host migration. After playing to Wave 15 on Escalation and having the host quit, I am absolutely refusing to put any money into this title without this very basic feature implemented. Having an online mode where you can sink an hour of your time without some sort of failsafe is ridiculous, and I've had Escalation crap out on me too many times.
War for Cybertron. Host migration. Now.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Ahahahahaa
Serves them right for being retarded.
And more War for Cybertron? YES!
And about host migration ... Wasnt there a supposed to be a patch coming out that somewhat fixes this?
Just a bit of advice, as I was having the same issue with escalation and hosts leaving. While it won't fix if there's a sudden disconnect issue, I recommend hosting when playing escalation. Solved my problem 100%.
Of course it didn't stop everyone from leaving when we made it to wave 16 anyway. But hey, at least a bunch of new people dropped in and got to watch me get demolished by all that wave 16 throws at you.
But that's the point; the feature does exist and has for quite a while, so there is no longer an excuse for a current generation game not having it.
You could be right, but if it's NOT a standard feature, that says a lot about the state of the industry. That shit was around back in the Half-Life days. There is no excuse for it to not be in every game now.
I really hope they can do it because I'm having a lot of fun when things go right, and with the first patch focusing keeping experience after a host quits I'm hoping a later patch will fix the major issues.
Host migration is definitely key though. There's no reason it shouldn't be in every multiplayer game.
Half-Life was a dedicated server model, which is totally the rub. The PC version of War for Cybertron uses Xbox LIVE style matchmaking for its multiplayer, so you get the same problems. If they're not going to give us dedicated servers for games, then a host migration feature should absolutely be included. Or at least tell the host that he's hosting so he realizes the impact of quitting. Wait, maybe that'd be worse?
Haha, that guy left our game as soon as the achievement popped up.
Then we got murdered by the jets an rocketeers fffffffffu.
X-12 Scrapmaker + Overshield + Thermo Mine spam (if you're not constantly laying mines, you're doing it wrong) = easy Wave 15 get!
I really don't think Host migration should be an issue for those PAYING for Xbox LIVE, I would really expect, when paying for "the betturest" online gaming service for Dedicated servers to be part of that deal.
I would have to throw it out there that more PSN games have dedicated servers than LIVE games. That's just an opinion, i don't have time to find out and count, but it's often PS3 exclusives that have those fancy free dedicated servers.
My Xbot buddy saw MW2 on my PS3 and was like, "oh you get a lot more host left the game and host migration and shit than i do on Xbox LIVE" - Durp durp, do you even know what you're talking about?
So the fact that in the couple of rounds you saw more hosts happened to leave on PSN than you see on LIVE means what? That LIVE is better? Because people tend to not leave the lazy, cheap P2P online system? THAT YOU PAY FOR?!
Don't be so fucking silly.
I would KILL for a good team to play Escalation with. How often do you guys play and can we get some shit done?
Still have yet to try Escalation out though. Sounds like it absolutely sucks with a bunch of randoms.
New maps/Character models are all definitely welcome too!
epic-koryuken: INDEED! Not even so much that they managed to put aside their differences, just because it's an open enough platform to allow steamworks, unlike some other paid for services. it was a Fatality and a Flawless victory long before Valve joined the team in my book.
Pretty much anytime I'm on, I'll play. Usually weekday nights anywhere between 8-12 EST. I say lets do this.
(Were friends on XBL already too. Step 1, COMPLETE.)
Why is everything a god damn PS3 Vs Xbox thing with you? Don't you ever reread the stuff you write and say to yourself, "Wow, I'm bored with this"? I know I sure would.
Corporate cheerleading is really just a sad thing to do. But to do it 24/7? Well shit, that's just depressing.
My GT is my name. Just shoot me an invite.
One thing I will note, one of my buds managed to get in on the 'Game with the Developers' thing last week and Host Migration was pretty much the first thing anyone asked about. No straight answer, a lot of kindof semi-forced laughter according to him.
I may be wrong on this, but wasn't this brought up about Gears 2 and Epic basically said they'd have to rip the engine apart to implement it? I can't think of any Unreal Engine games that have Host Migration, could it possibly be a limitation of the game engine itself?
