It's a fact that Electronic Arts needs to get off its ass and employ someone (anyone!) to make a true next-generation SSX title. What if that "someone" was Guildford, England-based Burnout developer Criterion Games?
That's the rumor, coming straight from the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. The title is said to be in development alongside the already confirmed "action" Need for Speed title that's set to ship this holiday.
Word of a Criterion-developed SSX started floating around awhile back when the company's official Twitter account dropped a mysterious message referencing SSX announcer DJ Atomika, as well as the "Peak 3."
Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but with E3 set to be a huge show this year, we may hear more in the coming months. If someone important is reading this -- please make this be true... even if it's not.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Yeah, I think I just had sublime joygasm.
Just imagine... wow...
I would buy it in a second
Also, FUCK YES!
Man. Criterion getting into games would mean there'd be a studio dedicated to "remastering" old games to stream line their menu and gameplay systems and update their skins and output levels.
Imagine Criterion Collection X-Com with Developer and Critic Commentary...
Have a chubby for this already.
Omg I need some new underwear
Also, am I the only one that liked Viggo? :/
Viggo grew on me.
Zoe's mah gurl 4 life, though.
JIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Criterion DID make Burnout 3: Takedown, another fantastic game, I trust them.
JIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
MAKE IT NOWWW WJISSIZJZIJJIZJZIIZZZZZ
i mean i think it would suit the arcady gameplay
You need to play one. SSX3 is highly recommended. Sez me.
Check out his comic Empowered for more of his work. Deviant art also has a gallery of his stuff.
More SSX? Was a cool game, but so many snowboarding games have come and gone since then. What more can they offer to such a sport in a game? Frankly, I'd rather see more Burnout or that long overdue sequel to Black.
Ignore every other SSX, play SSX 3, and fall in love.
Yes, it is absolutely wrong that you haven't tried them. Everyone says start with 3, but I recommend Tricky. Either way, Tricky and 3 are the best.
You have to play Tricky and SSX3. There's enough differences between them to make it worth your time, and they're both awesome!
Dammit, I want my Marisol back! Please let this rumor be true!
Drop the skis, keep the snowboards and bring on the motherfucking mountain.
I agree that Tricky was more arcadey, but that was one of the two PS2 games that I got when I bought my console, and I will always love that game dearly. If I ever meet a woman who looks like Allegra or Marisol, I'm popping the question.
But yeah SSX3 was more expansive and cohesive, so I can see why some people would love it more.
Addictive shit.
