RUMOR: Tekken Vs. Street Fighter in the works photo

I find this one hard to believe for several reasons. For one, Street Fighter and Tekken play nothing alike, so combining them would surely necessitate the alienation of one or both of the series's fan-bases. Secondly, Capcom doesn't generally announce a new Vs. game until the last one they've announced has been released. Why should they compete against themselves by announcing Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Tekken Vs. Street Fighter in the same time-frame?

Also, Tekken? Really? Does anyone play Tekken anymore?

Still, I hope this rumor is true. The more Capcom fighting games that get brought into existence, the better. If this game does come to be, I hope it doesn't get landlock to Japan like Namco and Capcom's last collaboration, Namco X Capcom.

How about you? Do you want some Devil Kazuya Vs. Evil Ryu action up in this piece?

Tekken is still fucking huge in Asia.

that out of the way, I don't believe this until I see something actually revealed. this is just... weird. there are so many other cross-overs that come to mind over this one. has anyone ever asked for this?

Namco X Capcom was damn good for anyone who imported. I still rarely have any idea who many characters are or what the hell's going on, but it's good.

Why would anyone go and drag the good name of Street Fighter through the mud like that?

Give me Capcom vs SNK, not this crap.

I'm not sure how to say this without starting a flame war so I'll just not say it.... eh or maybe I will.

Keep that Tekken trash away from my Street Fighter.

Imma mark this down in my book entirely as just a rumor.

Also, just cause you never got into Tekken enough to still play it doesn't mean there aren't Hardcore Tekken players out there that play on a daily basis.

Thats really, really unlikely. And besides, there was alot more talk about a Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter game (this was mentioned by some of the people from the Tekken and VF teams). Hell, i'm more welcoming of a Namco vs. Sega game anyways.

No.

Also, whats the entire source on this? Someone at the site you linked just said it was "a reliable source". I mean, I highly doubt this would ever come into fruition even based on how extremely different the games are. A crossover wouldn't work well at all, and it'd be damn near impossible to find a halfway point between the two series that actually results in something good.

tl;dr version. No.

Holyyyyyyy shiz the feud is already on in the comments. See that's why this would, in theory, be a good game. Because people would take their sides like gang wars.

That said, I'm still gonna hold onto my 90's crossover dream of a 2D Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat.

I'm all for more new crossovers, but I'd rather they stay away from Namco. Tekken and Soul Calibur have felt directionless for a while now and its largely because Namco has Maddenized them.

How about Capcom Vs. Komami? Marvel Vs. DC? I'd buy those. I've loved Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom so far and can't wait for MvC3.

Let's not revisit CvSNK, though, that shit was boring.

@ Cataract- I know a little more about this than I let on in the post, which led me (and Nick Chester) to think that it may be true, but we are both still extremely skeptical about.

If this game happens, I would be surprised if it were another turn-based strategy game like Namco X Capcom.

It's already bullshit. The two series would make no sense together. You either make Street FIghter 3D and completely negate almost all special moves or make Tekken 2D and have them be useless against people with special moves.

It would probably play like a Capcom Vs. game, which is different than Tekken and Street Fighter, and they haven't announced it before the release of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. They could be working on Tekken Vs. Street Fighter but not planning on announcing it for another year for all we know.

Also, no. This won't happen, and it shouldn't happen. I like my Tekken and my Street Fighter segregated. More Capcom Vs. SNK would be welcome, though. Vanessa needs to kick C. Viper's ass for stealing her style.

I'm trying to think how this would work. I would think something that's not a fighting game, but the idea would probably piss off fans as much as trying to shoehorn two completely different fighting systems together.

One year ago I would be totally against this.

When I got tired of SFIV my buddy bought me Tekken6 and I fell in love with the Raven character. So with that knowledge my answer is now:

No. Tekken thrives in a full 3D/side-stepping plane. Street Fighter should never leave the 2.5D plane of existence. Also, shoto-scrubs would own any character who isn't Devil Jin.

That said, I would love to see BOB versus RUFUS! FATSO FIGHT! (Spoiler, Bob wins)

Raven would rape (who in SF is a ninja? Ibuki I guess?) Ibuki, as well. :D

In the latest issue of EGM there is a giant love-fest over Street Fighter(it spans like 20 pages) and everyone respects everyone, most notably Ono-san saying Mortal Kombat "it's really an entertaining fighting game" So I would rather see a SFvMK, I would make sweet, sweet love to my inner child if that were to ever happen.

I hope not. Capcom fighting games pretty much suck (special spams get old fast. I love Alpha 3 and Third Strike though) and Tekken plays nothing like a Street Fighter.

I am more on the side of "I hope they don't" than "They aren't going to".

Tekken and Street Fighter are ONLY similar in 1 way, they're both fighting games... that's it. Everything about them is different after them. To compare them is literally like apples and oranges. Some people don't like apples, some don't like oranges, some like both. Either way, its still fruit.

As for the mash up? I vote NO. Because they wouldn't (and really can't) make all of the SF movesets more complex and combo oriented. Or they could dumb down Tekken's movesets.

Yeah... no thanks

It'd probably be easier to make a Tekken-style VS. game than a Street Fighter one. Ditch the super moves and you're done. Going the other route would require you inventing super moves for the Tekken characters.

That said, I'd like to just see a versus game that's just a huge mash up of fighting games. Characters from Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, Tekken, etc. -That- would be awesome.

Not a chance in hell this is happening.

Tekken has HUGE movesets, SF has much smaller movesets.

Tekken has no projectiles (except for lameasses like devil and ogre). HADOUKEN!

Different blocking systems. Tekken has low-mid-high, duck dodges throws. SF has Low/Standing blocks, ducks do not dodge throws.

What in the fuck are the Tekken characters going to have for their super moves?

NOT.HAPPENING.

Yeah, some Tekken hating started after Tekken 6 not being such a great game like Tekken 5 was... I still like the series and this would be interesting, however, it's not happening because it wouldn't work. Movesets, Hadoukens... nothing fits.

Namco X Capcom was great.
Namco Vs Capcom would be awful, especially if it was like Capcom vs SNK 2 (A.K.A. Street Fighter vs King of Fighters), as it would just be Street Fighter vs Tekken - which, as many above have mentioned, would not work because of various technical reasons.

However, here's how you could make it work... as a 2D Fighter.
Limit the Tekken characters to 4 or less. Jin could work in a 2D Fighter similar to Kyo. King could work like Tizoc. Things like that - think logically.

Limit Soul Calibur characters, also to those that would work in a 2D Fighter. Kilik could play a decent Billy Kane impression. Mitsurugi could be like Haohmaru. Taki has magic abilities - just enhance that a bit.

Focus on every other Namco property. Any of the "Tales of..." characters? Perfect. Xenosaga? Also good. Klonoa? He'd be great. Taizo Hori (A.k.a. Dig Dug)? If you played Namco X Capcom, you'd know that'd be the most bad-ass thing ever.

It's an ugly combination of game styles, and there is a lot of bad blood between the fans of the two. 2D fighting fans have a lot of beef with Tekken, and vice-versa for the other side. It wouldn't make for a cohesive game, and ultimately it would lead to one side talking more trash to the other when the developers finally sorted out which way the wind had to blow for the game to work. It'd be like combining Halo and Killzone, but a million times worse.

Tekken > Street Fighter. And I absolutely love both, two of my favorite gaming franchises ever.

Tekken for GBA was not completely awful, they could make it more 2D-ish and... OK, no, it would simply not work.

This would be weird as hell.

It's like trying to mash TF2 and MW2's mechanics together. Not only are they different in gameplay philosophies, but each has their own way they approach the similar genre.

If they actually do this, they have to decide what route to go in terms of both games' wildly different engines.

If it was Virtua Fighter vs Tekken, fine.

Pretty sure Namco would rather have a Tekken Vs. Virtua Fighter before even thinking about Capcom.

on that note....lmao@ this idea.

on another note. Tekken is still big in Asia. But that's cause they have the arcades to play other people with. Online doesn't cut it for Tekken.

plus people don't want to learn a technical fighter. Think Virtua Fighter's mindset but not that steep of a learning curve.
