If the rumor is true, Sony may be losing one of their best game creators.
Eurogamer says that Fumito Ueda, Team Ico boss and creator of Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and the upcoming The Last Guardian, has left Sony. Sources say that Ueda will continue work on The Last Guardian, but as a freelance worker. When he's done with the game, he'll move onto new personal projects.
If this rumor is true, I wonder why he bailed. Maybe there was too much pressure to ship The Last Guardian, which has been delayed a few times now.
Sony doesn't comment on rumors, but I know you do.

-Release a game that is unfinished, finishing it later with priced dlc
-Release a finished game, but never make a profit.
The only game I've played this generation that walked the tight rope of feeling finished and not taking a decade was dark souls.
Dark Souls and Skyward Sword.

I think Ueda is a master of gaming ambience. Only matter of personal preferances.
Don't give a fuuuuuu--
It'd be great to have him partially involved in several freelanced projects down the road instead of killing himself on a single game.
Reminds me of my selfish attitude when I heard that Heath Ledger died: "please tell me they finished filming The Dark Knight!"
That made me giggle a little bit, I like that line. Thanks.
Bad news, if so.
If I had to make a guess, it would be that he's invested so much of himself into The Last Guardian, and needs to step back from Team ICO, at least for awhile. He's been working on this for years and years.
I doubt it has anything to do with Sony. Worldwide Studios is generally hailed as a great place to work, especially compared to the other large publishers. Besides, Fumito Ueda commands so much respect that he could probably do anything he wanted and Sony would simply sign the check.
I eagerly await TLG, and anything else he creates. ICO, more than any other game, showed me that this industry has incredible potential above and beyond what we usually play, and is one of the biggest reasons why this became my primary hobby.
Wherever he ends up, he will continue to do amazing things I'd imagine. I always got the impression though that what made Ico and SotC special was not just him but the team, in the sense that, as a whole, they approached video games as outsiders.
Sony seemed much more intent this generation on shedding the quirkiness that made the PS2 such a special product. The truth of this rumor would seem to solidify that notion.
Oh I know, those are great counter-examples. I was speaking generally.
Perhaps another way to state it is that something has been lost from that generation to this. Certainly the level of 3rd party support for the PS2 is unparalleled today, and maybe it's as simple as that. As for Sony 1st party development, losing Ueda can't be a good thing.
Pressure from Sony? Ummm... Isn't that better than forcing your developers *cough* RARE *cough* to only create Kinect crap?
*Badum Tish*
Also, MC? My Cock? I don't think anyone would want to get in your coc*, seeing as how that is gross, and inappropriate for a Pre-pubescent 9 year old kid like you to say, you sick fuck!
P.S. I remember you saying that The Last Guardian does suck because it's a PS3 exclusive. If it does come out for the Xbox (probably when you finally mature in 720 years but might not), are you going to take back what you said just because it's in your gay lover Xbox's disc tray?... Hey, where's your mom anyways? She's worried about you because she hasn't breastfeed you since 30 seconds ago. Shoo shoo, you little bugger!
Unless you're saying Ueda has been fired, that really makes no sense.
As for the quirkiness, it's still there on the PSP. Blame that one on Japan for being primarily a handheld market.
I don't play handhelds (I have enough platforms to juggle as it is) so that part of the industry is off my radar, but point taken.
@Indigo
Indeed. This generation isn't over yet (I hope. I think this gen still looks great. Heck, I think many last-gen games still look great), so I would gladly eat my words.
such as Sega, Platinum Games or even Square Enix.
if he decide to go to square enix that would be awesome :P
he could definitely offer some new talent plus using the engine of Luminous Engine would be awesome :P
If its true however then im pretty shocked...
