Rumors suck. But, when Famitsu puts out a rumor, then usually we are forced to pay attention. Why? Because they're usually right, whether we like it or not. The latest little tidbit to come out of this Japanese house is that the Wii's Super Mario Galaxy is headed to Japanese stores in October. What does this mean for American Wii owners? Not sure.
We were promised this game before Christmas, but if the Japanese get it first, will we get it in time? You'd think Nintendo would love to counter the Halo 3 and Metal Gear Solid releases with their own megaton bomb, so it's probably safe to say it will come out on schedule. That is unless Nintendo is still so cocky that they wouldn't need a Mario Christmas -- the Wii may just sell on hopes and dreams alone, still, by then.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Fucking Wii. If this is true... I dunno Smash was promised before THIS and we've heard NOTHING. So..
j/k
That is fucking mean Nintendo. MEAN! I know we got Zelda, but still.
WTF, quit stalling on that release calendar Nintendo and get some shit out there so we can use the system.
A Mario Platformer came out last week. It would be a grevious error for Nintendo to release two Mario platformers in the same year. They'd only cannibalize their own sales. Average consumer is going to look at the boxes and think, why get SPM when you can get SMG.
I'd rather a Mario platformer be awesome than out at launch myself. Nintendo releases their games when they're fully polished, and that's worked out for them well in the past. That's what makes first party Nintendo games what they are. Meh, I guess I'm just more patient than most people.
@ Summa:
I know you're trolling, but was that game any fun? I usually enjoy the hell out of Mario Sports titles when three friends and some booze are involved, and heard good things about Strikers. Sega Soccer Slam was great stuff in a group, I'm hoping for something like that.
Anyway, I'm fully hoping to see the game this fall. If not, I'll somehow manage to survive.
I know I enjoyed it.
(As of right now. Please prove me wrong, Nintendo and third-parties.)
If they deliver MP3 or Smash this summer, I'd be happy tho.
Smash I dunno if it'd come out before Galaxy, but it is known to be a game that sorta pops outta nowhere. The release of the first one for 64 was really outta the blue back then...
Yeah I thought I was the only one to catch that...
June 26, 2007 - Ninja Gaiden Sigma (played on xbox)
July 31, 2007 - Lair (pretty! but replay value?)
August 2007 - Heavenly Sword (pretty, but not my style)
September 2007 - Home (and yes, IMO it's just a game)
It's not much, but after dealing with the drought that PS3 owners will have been through, it'll be heaven I'm sure. :P
That might sound batshit crazy in an industry where its the software that is important, but we are talking about Nintendo.
Can I ask why you ask? The reason I am being critical of the Wii (or am I?) is because there has been nothing of interest for a lot of gamers since Zelda. (Please note that I live in the UK, we are yet to see many games that you have in the US). I want the Wii to be great, thats why I paid £300 for one from Ebay (Thats over 599 of your US dollars by the way) but right now its just not cutting it.
We were almost promised a slew of big games (i.e. Mario, Smash Bros, Metroid) for and just after launch. None have materialised. I wonder if Nintendo had these games ready to go to ensure a strong start, realised that the Wii was selling out regardless of these games and decided to hold them back for when they could inject new life into system as required.
What is so hard to believe about what I said?
