I've been all hot and bothered for the PSP remakes of the first two Star Ocean games ever since I got my hands on them in Japan last year. Both have been beautifully remade, with new artwork, cutscenes, and even playable characters. Japan saw the release of the first title, Star Ocean: First Departure, last year (opening movie above). And the sequel, Star Ocean: Second Evolution just hit Japanese PSPs a few weeks ago. And we're still waiting for a release date for the first one.

While not official, Gamefly's listed dates have done us well in the past. Siliconera tells us that a date of September 30th has been listed for the Star Ocean: First Departure. There's no word on the second one yet, but we'll remain hopeful for that one too.

The PSP has become quite the RPG machine, hasn't it? Are you looking forward to this game? Or is your focus on Star Ocean 4

Hell yeah, I'm looking forward to both Star Ocean games being released on the PSP in the US. They never brought the first over and only by fan translation did English-reading gamers get a chance at an overlooked RPG. I'd like to support it finally after all these years if they would bring over the first. I'd be ecstatic if the second was released over here as well. It would be a stupid move not bringing these over, but it's never stopped Squeenix before. Where's Front Mission 5, you bastards? D:

yeah, this is more than ideal for all of those who didn't play the fan trans of the first one. It's an incredible rpg already, and it will be so much better dolled up as it is now

I have been interested in the first 2 games ever since I played SO3. So it's nice to see that atleast one of them will make it to the US.

I played SO:3 and it has me hooked. That game was freaking amazing, and it has me interested to play the first two. I tried to get a good copy of SO:2 for the ps but its crazy expensive.

These sound like the perfect way to play the first two. I can't wait to get ahold of em.

Also SO:4 will be amazing.

I was hooked with SO:2. I'm pretty sure the reason people hate on 3 is because the second was so good.

If these games really are coming out in the US, the Sony just sold one more PSP.

Star Ocean two is in my top 3 of fav RPGs next to the first Valkyrie Profile and FF6... and I never played the first Star Ocean. If they know what's good for them, they'd bring those games over yesterday!

As long as it doesn't suffer the ridiculous performance issues that plagued FF Tactics for the PSP, I'm definately down.

I have very fond memories of the second game.

Hope this turns out to be true. I've been waiting for news of a US release for friggin months. I've already played the fan-translated version and Star Ocean: Second Story, but I still can't wait to play both First Departure and Second Evolution and see what all has changed.
