Rumor: Staff cuts hit Rebellion photo

Develop-Online is reporting that up to 20 Rebellion employee's have been let go from the Oxford studio. Rebellion's Derby location is reportedly no more as well. It's been known that the Derby studio has been facing some troubles since the beginning of the year, but a source close to Develop has stated that the studio is all but closed.

Rebellion recently put out Aliens Vs Predator which has done pretty well, especially over in the UK. It's always sad to hear about these kinds of troubles and we'll have to wait to see what the official word is on all of this from Rebellion.

I would have more sympathy if they were developing the Judge Dredd RPG or the Nikolai Dante swashbuckling platformer I've been waiting for since they bought 2000AD. As it stands they've been treading water with awful PSP games for the best part of the last 5 years.

Always sad to see folks losing their jobs though. I'm sure they'll get a gig at Rare though.

Find that suprising, given how well AvP's done.

Maybe they should make good games.

AVP doing well in no way means they don't need to drop employees. The employee firings (at the main office) obviously did not occur because money is short.

@Magesx
DERP

Anyways, probably dropped some after the main game workload has been done unfortunately. Otherwise a universally respected game in terms of quality.

It's always sad to see people Lise jobs particularly in this economical climate.

That said I hope they continue to support the game I already paid $100 for (yes I got the hunter edition). The amount of maps included in AvP is ridiculously small and the survivor maps are just recycled SP levels. I think Survivor would benefit from maps created specifically for the mode. But I guess this is OT.

It's sad, but Rebellion hasn't released a FUN game in over a decade. :( I'm surprised that they're still around. Here's to hoping that someone will release a sequel worthy of AvP2.

Having played a fair few of Rebellion's recent games, I think I am qualified to think that they should make better games.

Yeah, but Free Radical made games that were actually good.

It's not always sad to hear of these things.
These guys simply aren't very talented developers. If there was any one developer I'd feel no remorse over people being fired, it's this one.
If this is the rebellion, sign me up as a storm trooper.

@fckgd: You're fucking ignorant when you think these guys have no talent. They perfectly captured the alien/predator/marine universe. So if you think this sucks you either have no clue or it's not the type of game for you.

Shit, hopefully they've got enough people left to make the AvP online actually work!?!
