Rumor: Sony's October 12 'big bang'

Rumor: Sony's October 12 'big bang' photo
     PSP

GamePro France is reporting that Sony may have something up their sleeves in two weeks time. According to the roughly translated article, the announcement is said to be of some significance:

Indeed, it seems that the dated October 12, 2007 one was chosen by Sony to make an enough important advertisement to be qualified in-house “big-bang."

To be sure, that translation is a mess, but it does imply that this is an announcement that could send shock waves throughout the industry ... or at least jump-start system sales and interest. The GamePro France article reference the rumored PlayStation 3 price drop, but does that constitute the use of the words "big" and "bang"?

With less than two weeks to go, that gives us about 12 days to make wild, uneducated guesses in the comments section of this post. Well? What are you waiting for? Go on!

Okay, so everyones guess so far has been great but it is France so probably something to the effect of a Wine-crushing-sim. Comes with a barrel controller for the real crushing experience.

On a more serious note, most likely a price cut. Everywhere else is doing it.

Perhaps it’ll be that price drop that everyone thought was gonna be announced at TGS — you know, the one where they put out a 40 GB PS3 bundled with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray for $399 and lower the price of the 80 GB version to $499. Who knows?

The next firmware update for the PS3 includes a change that will allow the PS3 to play HD DVD. Or that Sony is dropping Blu-Ray. Wait @home is delayed again. Talladega Nights themed PS3? Sony is buying Nintendo or the inverse. Also, Cocks!

has to be a price drop of some sort...i can't imagine anything else really surprising us. A game won't do it...unless nintendo finally finalizes the sony/nintendo merger that got shot down over a decade ago. that would be a big bang.

Probably a price cut for europe, considering they never got the first one. Also, I think they'll hold onto the 40gb unit until closer to black friday. They will also have to ship the 40gb units as they announce it, or they will cannibalize their own sales.

Considering how "full of themselves" sony can be, I would expect the announcement is not chock full of "big" or "bang". Maybe a white PS3 or a game bundle. I bet it will make lots of people say "meh".

PS3 now ships with DualShock rumble, since we were idiots and didn't include it in the first place.

That or you know they might announce a much cheaper PS3, although unlikely since Kaz is convinced the price-point isn't the reason it's failing.

It's easy and obvious, Microsoft bought the Playstation license, because of the success of HALO 3, and 'cause of the fuckin' amount of money, microsoft gave to them. So the next playstation will be called XBox 720.
