In what will probably be the strangest rumor this weekend, a new slice of gossip is claiming that Sonic the Hedgehog will be a playable character in Mario Galaxy 2. In a way, that's very plausible -- if you've not been able to star in any decent games yourself for the past ten years, why not gatecrash someone else's game?
The rumor's being spread by NGamer, a UK-based Nintendo Magazine. According to NGamer, a "trusted source" at Nintendo has spilled the beans, explaining that Sonic will be in a stage called "Green Hill Galaxy."
These guys could just be yanking our cranks, but it would kind of make sense. We already know that Mario and Sonic are more than happy teaming up, with the Mario & Sonic games and Super Smash Bros. Brawl being prime examples. Also, with the announcement of Sonic 4, it would be good for Sonic to get as much face time with the public as possible.
Then again, this was posted Friday night, so the NGamer chaps might just have been drunk and screwing with us. Who knows?

I don't know about this one. Doesn't sound that bad. It also doesn't sound that good either.
Sonic can join in on summer and winter fun and a fight here and there, but I''d like him to stay the hell out of the core Mario titles. Please.

1. Nintendo would make an official announcement and not let the info leak or say "we don't respond to rumors"
2. NGamer wouldn't reveal this info in this manner.

Mario Galaxy 2 would be crazy high on my radar if this were true. Always hated Mario as a character, loved his production values.

Not necessarily... If Sonic is only playable in Green Hill Galaxy, then Yoshi might not appear in that area of the game, in which case Sonic wouldn't be able to ride Yoshi.
Also, I don't follow your logic on how the possibility of Sonic being able to ride Yoshi makes this rumor less likely to be true.

These. Like I said in the Sonic 4 confirmation article, Sega should just either kill Sonic off, or sell him to Nintendo. They will give him great 2D and 3D games.
Also, I don't think Mario should be in Sonic 4. Sonic 4 needs to take a page out of Mega Man 9's book and completely stick to its roots. Maybe they could put Mario in that Sonic kart racer, but keep him out of Sonic 4.
Also, Sonic appearing in SMG2, if true, is kind of like Eric Bischoff working for Vince McMahon. It pretty much confirms who won that rivalry.
