Sega has promised that Project Needlemouse will ditch the codename and officially be revealed next week, but let it not be said that fanboys are a patient bunch. Not content to wait for Sega's unveiling, some Internet detectives among the Sonic fan community have uncovered a newly registered URL that could officially portent the announcement of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Sonicthehedgehog4.com has been reserved by a man called Brandon Klein. The Sonic fans tried to dig up information on the guy and came up short, save for one email address linked to Klein belonging to another Brandon -- Brandon Laurino. This particular Brandon just so happens to work at Sega as a community and online director. You cannot hide from people with no lives!
Whether this site means anything or not, I would say that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a no-brainer for Project Needlemouse's official name. Sega's marketing up until now and the clear focus on a Mega Man 9 style reboot makes Sonic 4 the most obvious choice. We'll have to wait and see, but we're not going to act surprised when the news drops.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
As for Sonic 4, I'm kind of getting excited but have had so little faith in Sonic for such a long time. Then again, Sega is releasing a lot of good games lately. I quite enjoyed Bayonetta.
I imagine it will be in a 2D perspective with HD polygons, but I could be absolutely wrong.
It could mean that whoever registered it set the forward himself just to pull everyone's chains.
1) This is more than likely an official numbered Sonic entry. This is/could/should be the point of no return. If they screw this up, then________ (feel free to fill in that blank for me. Please.)
2) All my friends are Sonic fans and are looking forward to it, despite trying to act all skeptical and jaded. I can see the fanboys in them screaming like schoolgirls at a Twilight book signing.
3) Also, cocks.
Sonicthehedgehog3.com - points to Sega
Sonicthehedgehog2.com - is nothing
Sonicthehedgehog.com - is Archie Comics
Seems odd to register 4 if it doesn't even continue on any sort of line
But we assume this EVRY time a new Sonic game is made. Their love for their blue hedgehog is far deeper than the ocean and much wider than the entire planet.
-2d
-Sonic only
-Momentum-based speed again
-old school badniks
So far, so good!
I'll give you a hint: Look at the related stories under this article...
MAKE IT HAPPEN SEGA
IT CANNOT BE UNSEEN
Sega has already confirmed that there will be no new characters, playable or otherwise. In fact, after seeing that list of characters, I think the only other characters that would be able to make the cut are Tails and Knuckles, and I don't think many of us will have much of an objection if they are the only other characters. But I get the feeling Sonic will be the only main character in the end.
You bring up a very good point, my friend. However, in Sonic Unleashed, some of the daytime level designs were damn good, the only problem with those were that they were way too short. Now, note that I said "some", because others were shit. Sonic Unleashed at least gave me hope that Sonic Team kind of remembers how to make a good game.
Give me a new Jet Set Radio.
LOL
Yeah, it'll hardly be a surprise, but I'm sure whatever they're going to reveal on Hedgehog Week will be thrilling. I'll probably also stop by Play N Trade to see if they have any sweet Sonic/SEGA old-school swag to pick up just for the week-long occasion.
Hey, does anyone find the original Sonic the Hedgehog overrated, or am I just crazy, bored, and anxious about finishing some friggin' college projects for this same week? CURSE THE SYSTEM!
smart move.
Sonic's problem goes beyond that, though. All the "good" Sonic games were about 4 hours long, at most. No one pays 60$ for a 4 hour long game anymore. So Sonic is padded into oblivion with shitty werewolf levels. Actually, a DLC Sonic game wouldn't surprise me a whole lot. Also, an almost immediate release wouldn't surprise me a lot, because...Sonic games are doomed by the hype cycle, as the graph 15 comments up shows.
