I'm jealous of Jim Sterling for many reasons. He's funnier, better looking, and more British than I am (at least, most of the time.) He also is usually first to claim all of the Sonic Colors news. Luckily for me, I managed to snag this story before he saw it. Eat it my dust, Sterling.
I'm pretty psyched for Sonic Colors. Adding stuff that the Sonic series has long needed (like power-ups) while sticking to what Sonic does best (2D speed-scapes) is a smart move on Sega's part. It would be even smarter to throw some local co-op into the mix. If Sega is hoping to tap into the +14 million Wii owners who bought New Super Mario Bros. Wii, that's the way to do it.
We haven't go anything but these screens (spotted on Amazon.com) to go on, but that sure looks like some Tails-free Sonic co-op to me. What do you think? Does this rumor sway you either way on Sonic Colors?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
You're cute when you try to be braggy Holmes.
I dunno about the rumor but that screen sure looks awesome. That's a pretty cool looking stage.
Possible camera issues aside, it can't be as bad as Tails getting me killed during boss fights in Sonic 3...the bastard.
I'm all for a return to full 2D, and local Co-Op is great. This game looks interesting.
Haha! I am an ENORMOUS Kirby fan, so that just made my day!
I can't let you do that,
besides Its just a bloody pinkish red Sonic.
Wonder if the DS version will have Download&Play.

The pinkish Sonic is not really a worry for me. They could have that Sonic in any color they want.
My concern is the 2-player mode.
(Bring back the Chaos instead SEGA!)
Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2 had Versus modes. (Maybe others did too, I just don't know about them.) That's my guess. Unless they really slowed Sonic down and made it primarily 2D, I just don't think 2P would work well.
I played it at GamesCom, and I thought it was the best Sonic game in the last 15 years.
If it's like the good old Sonic Adventure I'll give it a shot. Sonic Unleashed was a complete disaster in my opinion. The sonic stages were cool to look at but apart from some gamepad inputs it was playing itself. Don't get me wrong, there were some really cool levels but overall the design wasn't nearly as good as the Sonic Adventure stages. I just loved the beach, jungle, hurricane,... levels in the first one. Maybe it's nostalgia but I found nothing even remotely as remarkable as these levels in Sonic Unleashed.
But back to topic, because I'm a little skeptical for the 2 or more player mode. I mean it works in Mario, even though it's just for the lulz in my opinion. But in Sonic? I don't know.
YOU'RE TOO SLOW!
Hey, this possible co-op stage looks pretty cool. This looks like player-vs-computer to me.
Time trails?
Or maybe this is some fucked up last level where color has been taken from the world by an evil pink Sonic?
