Rumor: Sonic 4 getting a mine cart level? photo

Okay guys, brace yourselves because I've got some news that may leave you feeling queasy. According to the Internet detectives at NeoGAF, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will feature a Donkey Kong Country style mine cart level. Yes, that's right ... one Act might not be traditional Sonic platforming. OMFGBBQ!!!!!

The discovery of a potential mine cart level which would involve tilting the screen (like Loco Roco) has left the Internet in quite a tizzy. with some fans adding this to their list of evidence that the game will suck. In any case, if this mine cart level is real, the gameplay will involve speeding Sonic or slowing him down, while making sure the angle isn't too steep.

Sega's constant need to screw up a simple formula is getting annoying, but I'll give this a chance. Mine cart levels are a classic part of the 16-bit era, after all. I spent much of my childhood in a virtual mine. You never know, it might not be terrible. That's if this is even genuine.

Guess we'll have to wait and find out!

Even if it takes up an entire Zone, I doubt a mine cart level would screw up the formula terribly. Was it necessary? Probably not, but I doubt its much to worry about.

I still can't comprehend why anyone would care about Sonic the Hedgehog. That series should have stayed dead. And a mine cart level? Is that really news worthy? I just don't get it

I doubt the whole level will be like that. Just segments of it.
Like when you go into the pipe systems of Chemical Plant Zone.

there was a mine cart level in one of the sonic games i had for sega gamegear as a kid - since that was like 1994, i would consider it to be traditional

I always felt that minecart levels were an obligatory part of early 90's level design, along with water and lava stages. It feels only natural that sonic 4 would include a similar level.

Minecart levels in Donkey Kong Country were fun, mine cart levels in Gunstar Heroes were fun, why couldn't mine cart levels in Sonic 4 be fun? Give it a chance people we haven't seen it in action yet!

I'm guessing the Wii, iPhone and PS3 will make use of tilt controles for this.

Wasn't there a mine cart level in another one of the sonic games? Like Sonic 3 or something?

I dunno.

So can Sonic still run in this game? Or did they remove that for a rock climing sequence.

Didn't anyone played the Sonic 2 on Sega Master System or Sega Game Gear? it already had a mine cart level ( http://www.consoleclassix.com/info_img/Sonic_The_Hedgehog_2_SMS_ScreenShot2.jpg ) and it was a nice game.

The mine cart is a plot device to show how all of Sonic's friends got the black lung and won't be appearing in this act.

Anyway going to hold off on rage until I play the game. This is honestly Sega's last chance.

I can't say that I would enjoy a mine kart level outside of Donkey Kong, but at least Sega is copying a game that was good.

If it was a Werehog in the Mine Cart, then yes....it may have been bad news.

But they need to come up with some new things, cant be all rehashed from the previous games.

Sonic Rush Adventure had a mine cart segment, and that worked perfectly fine. People are once again getting upset over what's probably nothing to worry about.

MINE CARTS DON'T BELONG IN SONIC THE HEDGEHOG JUST LIKE THEY DIDN'T WORK IN RUSH ADVENTURE AND ADVANCE 3 BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH WAAAAH!

Whatever, man. If it's fun, new, and really well-made, I see absolutely no reason to complain.

Why don't people understand the problem here? It's not that Sonic is in a minecart, it's how you're supposed to control that shit. Go on and read it again.
It's gimmicky and shit. Most likely made for the Wii and PS3's motion controls.
