then again maybe this series just needed the nostalgia factor and word of mouth to be successful, like ICO/SOTC finally getting sales in 2011.

I never got around to playing Shenmue, so Sega, just put it on XBLA/PSN.

@flashclynes Shenmue may have a cult following, but it was far from a cashcow. We would be talking about Shenmue 4 or 5 if that was the case lol

Never played the originals, but if it got rereleased I'd buy it...probably...after I bought other games I already wanted....if I had spare money...

Meh. Like everybody whose spent too much time on the internet I've heard fans cream over Shenmue before but I never saw the appeal myself. Looked like a boring as shit walk-around-a-city simulator. But I might pick it up on a sale if it ever gets released...

Skies of Arcadia on the other hand, I want in-fucking-side me.

I don't believe it. It's just going to be some mega fan trying to drum up interest.

I think multi-platform nowadays (360/PS3/Steam) would make Shenmue 3 more than profitable.

It would need a Western touch with gameplay a little closer to Heavy Rain.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if they're trying to see where the future of Shenmue lies, wouldn't they want to release 1 & 2? It takes almost no effort on their part, very little money, and enough of a following to ensure that it breaks even, even if just fans buy it.

That's not including newcomers who might buy it for something new, people who never got to play the original and now can and so on. So they would potentially create new Shenmue fans while reigniting the love of old Shenmue fans, which would make the future of the series much brighter.

How exactly is ignoring the series and creating that one social game doing it any favors? If anything it's losing fans because people are out of motivation or just don't care/believe anymore.

And put it on Steam too! Dale don't forget about Steam D:

They should release it for the Wii U and PS Vita and then make a Shenmue 3 with brandnew graphics and Gameplay for the Wii U.

The touchscreen would be awesome for interactions with the environments. Maybe they could also implement some AR as Shenmue is all about realism, maybe you could scan in items and use them in the game or something.

You could also use the Gyro Sensor for first person view:

You walk into a shop, look around by moving the controller then tap the screen to select an item and interact with that item on the touchscreen.

They could also make it so your character improves his skill when you pass by a stranger with spotpass (or whatever they call it on the Vita) and exchange the little figurines you can collect in the game, just like in Street Fighter 3D.

They should also make it that you can do the sparring and other minigames, like raising the little kitten and the Arcade-Minigames without the need to enter the main game, this would make them more accessible for some casual fun.

They should also implement voice recognition, as interrogations are a major gameplayelement:

You would ask NPCs using Keywords, and if they don't get what you're saying, they might give you a hint at the keyword.

This gives me hope for a possible Dreamcast Collection Vol. 2 w/ JSR, Shenmue, (the rumored) Skies of Arcadia & ?

I'm still not willing to buy if the series doesn't have an ending. Also betting that the game aged and there is some nostalgia imbued praise going on here.

No Shenmue 1 and 2 still look great, of course the textures could need a nice touch up but it still looks great. The people who think it look like crap probably only played it using the RF switch.

I didn't have a Dreamcast (friend did, but he never had Shenmue) so I never got to play either of these. So they can consider my money had if they just stop screwing around and bring these out, I want to play them!

I already got the "HD collection" on my laptop ;)

I'd love to see Shenmue HD Collection come to Steam and other PC download services.
While they're at it, they should bring Skies of Arcadia over to PSN, XBL, and Steam , as well...
