Rumor: Scribblenauts 2 and F.E.A.R 3 coming next year photo

If the latest gossip is to be believed, Scribblenauts is going to become a franchise, and it will do so as early as next year! Warner Bros. accidentally let slip its list of 2010 games, with Scribblenauts 2 revealed among them. Not only that, it will expand beyond the DS to include both a Wii and PC version as well.

As well as Scribblenauts, the other big leak was F.E.A.R 3, the follow-up to the rather awesome F.E.A.R 2 that released earlier this year. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is also listed for DS and Wii, along with a bunch of licensed properties and silly casual titles that nobody cares about.

Scribblenauts was a good game with a promising premise, let down by bad controls and shoddy physics. If a sequel could fix that, it may be excellent, but the overall gimmick will have lost its novelty value. It will be very interesting to see what, if anything, can be done in the sequel to make it worth a return trip. As for F.E.A.R 3, the last one impressed me enough to keep me moderately excited.

What about you? Do these sequels sound like good ideas, or should Warner Bros. focus on something more original?

Ehh...Scribblenauts isn't the kind of thing that would work twice. I'm kind of sad they'll be spending money on it =(.

Actually a second Scribblenauts has the potential to be much better. If they just add in a better control scheme and implement some new puzzles and it should be better than the original.

I think 5th Cell has other projects this year, too, so Scribblenauts 2 is OK by me. I'd be more concerned if they had another Drawn to Life lined up for 2011.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is its own animated series based on the premise of the long running Brave and the Bold comic, which teams up other DC heroes with Batman usually. Don't go expecting Arkham Asylum out of it, but done right it could be a fun co-op game.

If The Creeper, Hal Jordan and Green Arrow aren't in it, though, I question its existence. Aquaman is unfortunately a given. Hopwfully his ability to talk to fish can make him useful this time.

I'm a big fan of FEAR and I loved FEAR 2, so I'm looking forward to FEAR 3. But the one thing I hope they can fix is the overall atmosphere of the game. It's less genuine horror and more ghosts-popping-out-of-a-closet-and-going-BOO horror.

I loved the second fear just because it wasen't as scary. I admit it i can not play a scary game, i could not get past the second level in the first fear cus it freaked me out so much. I want the third fear to be like the second please.

I honestly don't think either of these games deserve sequels. The first FEAR did, but then the sequel threw away everything that was awesome in the original (Classic FPS design, Intelligent Enemy AI, Great weapons). Scribblenauts is a good concept, but the actual execution was rather sloppy.

Bought scribblenauts day 1, played for 2 hours and never touched again. It's a cool app, but a terrible game.

Building more game around Scribblenauts is a very exciting prospect! Expanding the library, making it a little deeper with regards to properties and interaction, and I think they could manage some amazing things with the framework still.

If there was a game that needs social network integration and probably won't get it, its Scribblenauts.

Scribblenauts is the only regret of a spending I have in my whole game collection. It just gets so boring so fast.

I hope FEAR 3 gets a better release schedule than the last sequel. I have no idea why Warners decided to put it out a week before Killzone 2. Did they really think it was going to steal some thunder? That was probably the dumbest marketing move I've seen in a long time. The fact that Game were trying to shift it at £17.99 within a few months said it all.

I know it likely isn't in the cards, but imagine if the wii scribblenauts was 3d...
it could take advantage of the pointer style controls for typing and placement, and then turn the wiimote sideways and get real controls for movement and interaction.

The next Batman game better have the Cassandra Cain version of Batgirl in it or I'm going to ignite FANBOY RAGE!!11. Or not.

F.E.A.R 2 is in my PS3* as I type this and its bouncy camera is making me nauseous *green face*. I can't even think about F.E.A.R. 3 right now other than to comment that they need to seriously overhaul that graphical engine and...add RPG elements and random gun drops**.

*$20 new at fine gaming stores for anyone willing to try it.
**Blame Borderlands for that comment, dammit.

I spent most of FEAR 1 laughing at the poor, comic book writing of the game, so I never played FEAR 2 and have no interest in the third installment either.

All they really need to do for Scribblenauts is improve the control and it'll be AWRIGHT.

Scribblenauts was way overrated IMO. I basically quit after World 3. Just got so boring and repetitive. Plus the controls were horrible.

I remember when F.E.A.R. came out everyone was talking about how its so rare for a company to take a risk on new IPs and now we're at F.E.A.R. 3 (plus expansions, DLC, etc). I'm a huge fan of F.E.A.R. and I say keep 'em coming but maybe we need a spinoff or something. This new one better do something new.

If they redo the controls and physics in Sribblenauts 2, I might be interested.

I'm a huge fan of the FEAR series, having both on my PC being played regularly. FEAR 2's MP wasn't as big of a hit with me as the original's was, mainly due to the lack of...you guessed it, dedicated servers and anti-cheat, but the SP was and is quite fun for me still. I just hope they don't milk it.

*Gasp* BATMAN!1!

Jk, games based on shows inspired by comics always suck. Excluding the one that doesnt ; if it exists.

SCRIBBLENAUTS 2!!!1!!

Hopefully this one will have Chuck Norris in the library. (And a Dragon appears.)

And maybe the ninja would kill a lone pirate like in reality.

And if you type in bad words Maxwells parents would appear and scold him.

I supported the game. I went out and spent $35 on their awesome new title, then release the next one A YEAR LATER? When what, all it'll be is the same game with a few more objects I can create, and a new set of puzzles?

Seriously. It's the same game over again. $15, sure I might pay that. It's just the same game with a few new things.

BOYCOTT 5TH CELL. BOYCOTT SCRIBBLENAUTS 2.

Haha, yeah. They've been adding Shogo easter eggs into a lot of their stuff. Club Shogo in the Matrix Online, redesigned similar weapons from Shogo in the first FEAR, references in NOLF and Blood 2. In one of the FEAR 2 dev diaries someone runs past in the first few minutes and yells, "Did someone says Shogo!?" To say that Shogo is still in their minds would be an understatement.

Yeah, it would be unlikely, but there's definitely an interest for a Shogo or NOLF game to come out again and hopefully WB will take that into consideration and let them work on one.

What Carl Sagan said. I always though Scribblenauts would work out so much better on the PC, where people could mod in new items/levels/qualities/EVERYTHINGS. DO IT, Warner Brothers!

If they fix the problems the original had I might be able to get into Scribblenauts 2. But I don't really know what they can do for a sequel since the hook for the first game has now already been done.

Interesting. But I thought Level 5 said they were finished with DS titles and were working on console games? That being said, I would like to see a sequel to Scribblenauts that improves on the control scheme and other issues with the original. Like Mr Kite says though, I don't know how they can possible expand on the huge word bank for a second time around.
