Rumor: Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour street dates revealed

Yesterday, Kotaku reported on some leaked release dates for all upcoming versions of Rock Band 2. We did a little legwork this morning (i.e. walked into a GameStop and asked for a release list) and were able to find even more details on the alleged release dates.

GameStop is currently listing that Rock Band 2 (disc only) for the Xbox 360 is street dated for September 14. The special edition bundle (presumably containing the new guitar and new drum kit) has a street date of October 19, which is the same day the standalone disc and bundle is street dated for the PlayStation 3.

Bad news for Wii and PlayStation 2 owners, though, as they'll have to wait for November 18 for both the bundle and the standalone disc. One could speculate that this hand-in-hand release for both consoles means that Wii owners may once again be getting a quick, sloppy port of the likely stripped down PS2 title.

It also looks like Rock Band's retail rival, Guitar Hero World Tour, has a street date -- October 26 across all consoles. More after the break.

It should be noted that these release dates haven't been confirmed by publishers, and that retail release lists have been known to contain speculative information. However, it's our experience that retailers don't normally fabricate street dates, and there was likely some communication from the publishers to GameStop's buyers to arrive at such dates.

Below is our detailed break down of the possible street dates; check out the "confirmation" images in our gallery.

You guys haven't heard about the timed exclusive for the 360, have you?

@Ron & Pen - I assume it's some timed exclusive type deal. That's the only explanation I can put on it to make it even seem remotely logical.

@Mr. Wilson:

We have, obviously, but it wasn't made clear that the timed exclusive only included the game, and not the peripherals.

I figured Harmonix would be putting RB2 out early to help grab up potential buyers before GT:WT...

Oh well.

And yet GH:WT promises an intact port including DLC. Thanks for spitting in the face of Wii owners with a half-baked attempt, Harmonix!

@ Ron, Pendelton, and Nick Chester

Sorry I just re-read my comment and I realized I sounded like a total douche. I didn't mean to come across like that. Nick, I would never doubt your RB knowledge.

I'm also surprised by the fact that the exclusive seems to be disc only. Seems like a slick way to get 360 customers to have to buy the instruments separate.

Again, I apologize for that dick comment.

Does this mean that the Ion drumkit will be available for both the 360 and PS3 on the 9th October? or at least the same day for both consoles?

Whats with this lag? I want RB2 immediately, but if I do not get the new spiffy instruments, I'll wait until I can...

It's lame that you have to wait an extra month if you want the improved instruments. As a non-PS3 owner, I had no issue with the exclusivity delay, but I was expecting the full bundle to be out at about the same time. It seems that no matter how fantastic the game, Harmonix has a really hard time getting Rock Band out to retail in the way people want it to be.

Ehhh it being 360 only in September really turns me off. I have a 360, but I'd rather get something like Rock Band for PS3.

Dan, really? I'm stoked for the online features. That's going to be the big step from RB1 IMO, so I want it on Live where all my buddies are. To each his own though!

Good going Harmonix, Those of us in Australia/New Zealand have been waiting for 9 months for RB1, and you bring RB2 out before releasing the first one here?

Just torture us more by giving us the crap peripherals too while you're at it.

I agree. I hate Rock Band and I haven't even played it but YOU guys that decided Australia and NZ wasn't important enough to get it in time made me hate you. Don't want Rock Band.

We won't get Rock Band 2 for like 3 fucking years or something stupid.

Until the guys doing Guitar Hero 4 fuck Australia and NZ with release dates, you guys have me looking at you for my next fake guitar playing title. Until then; Do not want, nor care about Rock Band at all.
