Rumor: Riding with Hawk, mixing records will cost you $120 photo

According to specialty retailer GameStop, bundles for Activision's upcoming Tony Hawk Ride and DJ Hero will run you a cool $119.99.

Both games require the use of a dedicated peripheral, designed exclusively for the each of the games; without them, you simply couldn't play the games. Ride's skateboard peripheral is a hands-free experience, a board equipped with accelerometers and motion sensors to detects movement. According to a recent Game Informer preview, the DJ Hero turntable controller will feature three buttons on a spinning plate, coupled with some sort of cross-fader to mix songs during gameplay.

Tony Hawk Ride and DJ Hero are scheduled to ship this holiday; GameStop has their release dates for October 13 and October 29 respectively. While neither the price of date have been officially set in stone by Activision, retailers like GameStop often have an inside track on stuff like this in order to plan their year. On the other hand, the retailer also has to to get something in the system in order to start getting those precious pre-order dollars.

We contacted Activision late last week for reply, but are still awaiting a solid response. We think they're working on new ways to craft the ol' "we don't comment on rumors and speculation" line.

This thing is going too far, what's next fps's that require you to have a model gun?

That's £75, and since we all know things cost more in Europe, that means it's probably gonna cost £90! Which is ridiculous, as if the Tony Hawk's series hadn't alienated people enough already, the price tag will make Skate seem even more appealing.

It won't cost me that. Cause I'm straight up not gonna buy it.

If they react anything like the Guitar Hero drums (which seems like a weird phrase when I type it) they'll just break within a week of heavy use.

I wasn't interested in the next tony hawk's game, and now I'm defintely not buying if its going to run me what will turn out to be £100. Skate and Skate 2 will do me fine :)!

It won't cost me, I'm buying neither.

However if they would make some decent current gen light gun games, I could go for some of those.

I'm one of the few who seems willing to give Tony Hawk Ride a chance but at that price point, it's going to have to be near perfect for me to buy it. I don't know what they're planning with the game, but I hope for their sake, it's good.

I really think that Tony Hawk ride is just a law suit waiting to happen! You just wait, the first week the game comes out there will be a story in the news that has the headline "10 Year Old Boy Breaks Leg while playing Skate Board video game". I'm telling ya, it's gonna happen!

While I have no interest in the new Tony Hawk, I am intrigued by DJ Hero. I guess the final set list will determine whether I move on that or not.

Great, more plastic crap to clutter your home with, and worse of all it's 120 dollars. Just give me the game by itself okay?

If the game is fun then the price is right.

I can see $100. But the game will have to be really good and the controller board tight. Technology aint cheap, how much do you expect to pay for a skateboard controller with motion sensors up the yahoo? Who wants a $40 piece of plastic crap that breaks after a couple weeks?

$110...

Couldn't people actually buy a real skateboard and a few sessions at a skate park for that price?

I mean, not to knock the neat-ness of the whole concept, but if you're asking people to get a skateboard controller and do actual tricks on the board, physically exerting themselves the same way that they would if they were really riding a skateboard... Wouldn't that really be redundant?

Plus, if you're someone like me, who's uncoordinated on skateboards, it seems very alienating to release a game with a setup like this. It's like releasing Trauma Center with a real scalpel and syringe, or Guitar Hero with an actual 6 string guitar.

You can get a nice real Sector 9 board for under $100... hell of fun, plus if you hurt yourself on a real skateboard you won't be shamed for eternity.

Can I at least tilt the Rideboard to get Star Power?

That tony hawk board screams broken bones, lamps, and probably tv's. They must be really trying to go for the real experience right in your living room.

Both games at those prices are retarded.

When confronted with large price tags, consumers will compare similar products to see if the price is reasonable.

Guitar Hero Game + 2 Guitars = $99

DJ Hero + 1 Turn Table = $120

$20 MORE money for LESS fun. I don't see how any of these games will be able to market themselves with SINGLE PLAYER peripherals that push them past the $100 mark.

Even Wii Fit is cheaper than this crap!

Can't I just slap a Six-Axis to the bottom of one of my old boards.

Funny joke: I could buy this, or Modern Warfare 2 AND Mass Effect 2 for the same price. Guess which I'll do.
