Rumor: Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition coming soon (Update) photo

If you're breathing, chances are you've probably already played Resident Evil 4. Whether it was on the PlayStation 2 or the GameCube, it stands as one of the best games of that generation. But what if Capcom released a version for the Nintendo Wii?

According to rumors and speculation, along with three separate retailer's listings, the hit game is set to receive a Wii treatment sometime very soon.

Yesterday, a listing appeared on GameStop.com for Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, shipping in late June for $29.99). Later that day, Japanese retailer, Sofmap, put up a similar listing -- Biohazard 4 Wii Edition, shipping in May.

Now today, GoNintendo is reporting a similar listing in Blockbuster Video's computers. It should be noted that this is listed separately from the previously announced Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

The Sofmap and GameStop listings have since vanished, but a quick call to a local GameStop revealed that the game was still available for pre-order. We've contacted Capcom to get further clarification, but it's likely we won't hear anything more about this game (if it does exist) until April 13th, when Capcom has their Gamer Day event.

(Update: Not surprisingly, Capcom's response to this was that they haven't made any annoncements about a new Resident Evil game. Which is entirely true, isn't it? We shall see...)

About time you guys made this a story...

I might get the game, only if it has added features and collector's edition would be sweet.

If there are new features I will for sure get this...the Wii is drowning ... or suffocating from lack of games worth playing, this would be a breath of fresh air.

@ShinAmano:

Don't be bringing on the complaints of no games, granted it sucks there is a lack of games but Wii has only been around for 5 months! And before the Wii was released, not a lot of 3rd party developers were into making a Nintendo game, now they are working on them.

It takes longer than 5 months to make a game!

So just stop with this lack of games whining, PS3 doesn't have any games, 360 didn't really have any games at this time LAST year. oooo stop!

Snaileb, but there is only ONE version...and a lackluster PS2 port.

Can't they just port the PS2 version of RE4? After all, every other Wii game seems to be a PS2 port.

I only got as far as when you get trapped in the cabin with Luis, so I'd welcome another chance to play through this all the way. It'd be nice if they put in the PS2 bonus content as well.

@DrXym:

Why would you want a PS2 port for a Wii title for RE4? The GameCube version was reported better cause it just looks crisper and better looking. Just throw some new content on the GC version and put on 480p and 16:9

That's great news for Wii folks. Quite possibly one of the best games I've played.
I've never felt so much panic from a game as that opening village scene.

Technically if a version comes out on the "Gamecube 1.5" then that will be the true version, Blindside.

I don't honestly know if I'd purchase this game again, but for $30, it's not that much of a hit (when every other Wii game is going for $55+).

It depends on how it would control.

*Stopping to check the calender*

This can't be real....can it? I'm probably the biggest RE fan (and Capcom) at Destructoid, but even I can't see any reason to buy this game at the moment.

If it were a new RE game *Cough Umbrella Chronicles* I'd be on that like a supermodel. As it stands now, I can simply replay the Gamecube version on the Wii. Silly Capcom!

@ Summa:

Like Schitzophrenicdontpanic (haha, Hitchhiker's guide?) said, it isn't a remake. There are two parks, the CV-RE4 part and then another part where you PLAY as old character but it is with NEW sections we haven't played before. Kind of like a BEHIND the seens of the original games.
Rosseh's Avatar
Rosseh at 03/30/2007 11:25
I'd get this. The only copy of RE4 I could ever get was second hand and it would be nice to play the game without having to open and close the console over and over "Disc Cannot be read"

The controls are great but I really wouldn't mind pointillation.

BlindsideDork I was not complaining...I am a fan of Nintendo and I know that there are only a handful of games for thier consoles (since SNES) that are worth playing...Zelda came out...since then nothing else worth playing...this will be the next game worth my money...no problem I have games to play on my other 2 current systems to tide me over :)

I can see it replacing the QTEs with Wii motions, and perhaps aiming and such being finicky and/or smoother....but do we really need it? I can already play RE4 on the system. I doubt they'll do a graphical upgrade, so it'll basically be $30 for what, motion control?

All this and we STILL haven't heard anything about RE5....sigh..

Awesome. I haven't actually played it yet (need to beat RE2, 3, and CV first, cause I'm a nut for playing games in order)

Though it better come with all the extra features from the PS2 version. In fact, it better come with SOME extra features at all, there is the chance they'll just port the GC version with a new control scheme.

... and I just thought of something, I wonder if we'll be able to use a GC controller? If we can, that's awesome, because those who fear change need not worry.

Having bought the Cube version already, I'll only buy this if it includes all the PS2 extras, preferrably with both GameCube and Wii controller support, and hopefully more extra content and save transfer from the Cube version. New costumes, new weapons, maybe even the old RE4 version just as some bonus non-canon content. That or add a new area and prologue after the main game that'll give us some idea what RE5 is about (maybe with the protagonist of that game).
