Rumor: PSPgo set to have a relaunch? photo

Did Sony fail to make you want an ultra-portable, super-connected PSPgo during its first marketing run for the device? Rumor has it that they'll be giving the "go" another go in the near future.

An unnamed source "close to Sony" is telling Gamervision that that a PSPgo "relaunch" is happening soon, accompanied by what the Web site describes as a "marketing blitz" for the handheld that could, but just doesn't.

Speculation is all that's left of this story, but we can't help but wish that Crash Bandicoot would make his triumphant return alongside this alleged second push of the PSPgo. We have no real reason for this, other than our fancy for fur suits.

I've been thinking about getting a PSP, and really like the feel and size of the Go versus the 3000, but its a less capable machine for twice the money.

Just being attractive and ergonomical doesn't mean I'm going to drop an extra 100 dollars on it.

I'm all for lowering my carbon footprint and downloading games, but from a price standpoint I can get way better deals on actual copies.

Sony has to rethink its whole marketing stategy and price points if it wants this thing to work.

I want one, but I'm not paying the early adopter price - give it a nice price drop, relaunch it at a real price and you may just get a purchase from me.

Drop in some free credit for the PSN so I can re-buy Monster Hunter freedom Unite and I'll be a happy chappy.

If Crash showed up outside the Nintendo HQ with a megaphone shouting "Waggle this!" I might be interested.

I'd like one myself. I really do prefer to use it over my big ol' phatty. But I wouldn't pay $200 for it and I want a promise that all titles will arrive day and date on the PSN.. NOT the following Thursday and sure as fuck not some undetermined Thursday in the future. My PSP-1000 is not going anywhere and it can manage the back catalog in my personal case. But I want assurances on the future that Sony has failed to provide.

Drop the price by $50-100, and include a $30 PSN card. That's the way to do a relaunch!

Like said, price drop and PSN gift card. I'm really missing Monster Hunter, and it doesn't seem to be coming to PS3 yet. Might have to get a Wii instead. That'll show em.

Perhaps the PSPGo would have more luck if a) It cost less b) Existing PSP owners can transfer their collections - ALL of their collection, not just some crappy & tiny subset. The first issue should never have happened in the first place - a PSPGo has less parts than a PSP and should have been cheaper. The second issue can be solved by selling a UMD peripheral that allows users to sync their games. With those two issues out the way the PSPGo might stand a chance.

I'm one of the only people crazy for a PSP Go. It's small, compact and simply beautiful. But OMG, it's expensive. But I'm sure willing to pay $150 with some PSN Credit included ($20?). Or even some more, like $170, or maybe, even $180.

Sony haven't got a clue.

You wanna fix this car crash console, its simple, Sony. External UMD drive, UMD game transfer support and a far lower price point. I'd rather see the money you beggars are going to throw at a second stupid launch aimed at that.

Then and only then will this thing get my support.

it can't be that hard to create a UMD software emulator, something like Daemon Tools for the PC. that way (provided they also give us a way to make images of the UMD) you could bring all sorts of games along with no need for an optical drive, and you would be able to use your UMD games on the Go. Of course the main issue is that would open the doors for all sorts of piracy, but it's not like the PSP is immaculate now either, is it?

And the $250 price tag is just ridiculous, come on.

I have no need for a PSP that cannot play all of my lovely UMD-based games (yes, there actually are quite a few).

I'm actually consider returning my 1000 to costco and purchasing a go. I know it has it's problems but form factor alone is enticing enough.

That said I really wish they'd put 'sales' on PSN PSP titles. I just bought dissidia the other week at target for 20 bucks and its still 40 on PSN. Fix that stupid 'pricing parity' idea and knock of 50 bucks and I'm sure they'll sell tons.

There's no reason to buy a PSP Go over a 3000 until its price as well as PSN's prices go down. But, at this point a digital download costs more than a used game, and you can't sell the download back if you get sick of it.

That and the digital catalog needs some serious updating for the Go to look like a good offer. Right now you're missing out on a lot of great games without a UMD slot. Like Metal Gear Acid.

I already have a PSPgo so I am in no hurry to get one of these. I hope the PSPgo sells well with this relaunch as it is an amazing product I think. But I already have mine so I am set for right now.

I think Sony isn't getting something here.

I have a PSP3k from Japanland, so they won't be selling me a micro sized version with half the compatibility. Not to mention the buttons are way too small for me.

I want to want a PSPgo, but without a way to transfer my 20-something UMDs onto the HDD, I just can't justify it. The fact that Sony isn't requiring developers to release their games on PSN alongside retail is also a huge drawback. Throwing marketing dollars at this device isn't going to do shit until some of the go's fundamental problems are addressed.

The only way to fix this and have it succeed is Lumines.

Lumines plain and simple. Denying Lumines a place on the PSPgo is like denying the existence of Tetris on the Game Boy.

It's a platform selling title. Pay the fucking licensing fees to Shinichi Osawa (Mondo Grosso) and get the game out there as a downloadable PSN title.

Unless it includes a greatly reduced price, I don't see this being so much of a success no matter how many times they relaunch it. I'm happy with my PSP 3k w/16 gig memory card.

How's about instead of a relaunch they RELEASE SOME F-ING GAMES. I'm sick and tired of looking at the released lists and going on PSN to find there not on PSN for download. It's just shit really.

I like Sony. I respect what they did for the gaming industry with each generation. Sony manages to push gaming tech whenever they can, and we all benefit from it.
That being said, I hope they fail miserably with this. The purely digital format hinders us and our communities greatly.
From one standpoint, local shops will lose consumer because they can't sell product. Some may scoff at this, but that's far more important than most people realize.
Secondly, as the consumers we will be forced to purchase software purely at a publishers discretion. I don't know about anyone else, but $39.99 for a digital version of software we can easily find for $30 or less? I think not.
This generation of gaming has introduced a plethora or problems, but this is an example of one of the worst. Companies are getting too greedy for their own good.

@sotanaht

I have seen download cards for sale at local retail. So they can sell the games even if it is digital downloads. What they can't sell is used products. Which keeps the prices high, and will be their downfall.

Sony thinks that they are Apple and can sell this closed device to the elite market that Apple sells to. Problem Sony, is that you don't have the store that apple does, and you don't have the pricing that apple does. You will continue to fail with the PSPNova until you get a better store and better pricing. When people can boot up their PSP on Tuesday and download the latest PSP game for $10 less then in a store, you have yourself a winner.

And to the people who think it will kill retail if they do the discount. It might, but the iPod didn't. Accessories, cards, music, movies, etc, the add-ons will pay more then the games.
