Rumor: PSP Minis to be playable on your PlayStation 3 photo

If Joystiq's sources are to be believed, Sony may be significantly upping the value of its PSP Mini titles. How does allowing you to play them right on your PlayStation 3 sound?

Rumors have Sony enabling support for Minis on your PS3 as early as this holiday, with multiple sources confirming to Joystiq it will happen "before Christmas" or "this month." Sony, of course, refused to comment throwing out the standard "We don't comment on rumor or speculation."

I've only purchased one PSP Mini title myself, Zombie Tycoon, which is a neat little title at least worth the small admission price. Being able to play it on my television (without the use of PSP to television A/V cables) certainly sounds like a good idea to me. Why? Because I'm lazy, and wires are scary and complicated.

Wouldn't that then make it a PS mini?

Also I would think this would SUCK in terms of visual quality. Something made to show on a PSP screen doesn't seem like it would lend itself well to showing up on my 62" TV

What about actual PSP games? Because I would love to play PSP games on my PS3. It would save me the trouble of feeling like I bought a system I never use, and instead just go along with all the other games I never get around to playing.

*sweeps Devil Survivor and many others under the carpet*

Can you up the resolution? If that's the case then this could be an in for PS3 indie game development

Sooo, a PSP emulator on PS3? Awesome. That should also mean full PSP titles could be easily payable.

Agree with people saying that PSP games should be playable on the PS3.

Don't know if the PS3's powerful enough, hopefully it is.

@king kong five

yea, the PS3 should be powerful enough to emulate a PSP given the emulator is designed properly and uses the cell (which it would since its first party sony styled).

hell, i can run N64 games on my Wii and that is a pretty close comparison in terms of cpu processor powers to a psp and ps3. (the psp is a pretty sweet ass portable, hell it runs same specs as a ps2 in cpu 333mhz)

yay to this idea! i just picked up Blast Off for my PSP Go and it could be a fun quick game to play on the ps3.

@Ramage Mendez

have you ever played a nes or snes on that size tv? not that bad really. plus, there would be a smoothing filter most likely available. that is if this does ever happen. :)

This would render the PSPGo a little bit more useless. It won't be the only platform to play Minis, which would otherwise give it a selling point. If the PS3 really will be able to play Minis, then why would anyone have more reasons to buy an overpriced handheld? Lastly, playing PSP games on PS3 would be awesome.

Sell me a $60 PSP emulator on the PS3 and $40 games so I don't have to buy a PSP. I'm willing to give you money, Sony! Come on, guys!

Wow, Sony REALLY did give up on the PSP Go, didn't they...?

PSP Mini's are gimped on features, though. Even DSiWare is starting to emerge with online play for some of their $5 to $8 games.

Most PSP Minis, sans the Halfbrick stuff so far, is just shovelware.

Also, Sony would bone us all these years on PS2 BC for PS3, then turn around and make PSP Mini's playable? What kind of market testing do these shmucks do?

Pinball Fantasies in 1080p???? YES BLOODY PLEASE! Though I wonder if they will keep the option to rotate the table and play it with your TV in portrait orientation?

@Brlito
But DS Tetris wasn't really tetris was it? It had so many extra gameplay items it was closer to PuzzleQuest.

I love the PSP Tetris, aside from the Hold box, it's as close to the NES/GameBoy version as it's been in years - and just as addictive. I got bored of Tetris DS quite quickly :(

Downloading PSP games sounds like a much better idea, if you can also play them on your PS3.

Still this rumor sounds crazy and I am not sure it will actually happen.

I love PSP Tetris personally. Seems responsive enough to me. It does get really fast past level 11 though. Much faster than the GB one did. Or maybe I'm getting older.

Anyway, I don't see why this would only be minis. They'd have to write a PSP emulator for the PS3, so surely it would be able to run full PSP games as well. Minis are basically just regular PSP games, only with a smallish file size and no online stuff. Heck, today's NA store update had 2 games that would qualify as minis, but were originally EU titles from 2 years ago.
