Yeah, I don't know either. But at least T3 gives us something really interesting to look at while we imagine it.
According to Gizmodo, an insider at T3 says that Sony is working on a slim and trim PS3 revamp for a Fall release. Of course, none of this is confirmed, but I can say that their mockup looks amazing. Maybe the rumored 160 and 120GB models we mentioned earlier will sport a new, slim profile. Maybe not.
The current PS3 is like a plus-sized girl that's attractive. She's obsessed with her appearance, but she could stand to shed a few pounds. If that does happen, the Xbox 360 will look awkward alongside the new PS3 and the Wii.
The reworking of all Sony consoles comes in time, but it seems a bit early for a PS3 reworking. All I know is that I've totally lost count of PS3 SKUs already.
For those still on the fence, would a slimmer PS3 win you over? Would a $300 slimmer PS3 win you over?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I already own a PS3 and a slim PS3, provided no bells and/or whistles were cut, would have me buying a second one. I'm a sucker for fancy gadgets in sexy cases. And really, look at the (I know its fake) picture. Hot.
But then considering how PS3s currently look like this would be an upgrade.
I'm happy with the 60GB fattie I've got in my living room, but honestly all I want is a white one. Then it could look pretty while it collects dust, instead of ugly and collecting dust.
But given that the slim Blu-ray drive is relatively recent, and that Sony is probably leary of changing the cooling setup until the cell die size is reduced because of all the heat issues Microsoft has had, I don't a slim model will be the next SKU. Maybe for the holidays.
Looks bollox any way!
And whoopsie! I didn't see the fall release mentioned in the Dtoid story.
I enjoy large posteriors and I that is not a falsehood friends.
On a serious note, that mockup is cool and all but I see not oppertunaty to convert it into a George Forman grill type apperatus. Do Not Want.
Oh, and Wifi and Blutooth and all those fucking ports... but that's just me, perhaps I'm crazy.
That could quite possibly be the funniest thing I've heard in a while
YOu people whine about cost, they got the cost down, and look to be going even further. Then, you say you want all the features back that enabled them to get the cost down... its like they can't win here.
The people who want BC with PS2 games will pay for it now, those who are willing to wait shouldn't be surprised at the cost reductions, in order to entice them to buy one.
If they had an external power brick, like the 360 (and slim PS2) they could slim the thing down quite a bit. Also keep in mind they just recently made the announcement about the smaller form factor Blu-ray laser units.
Making a system smaller like this is as much a move to draw in new consumers as it is a means of lowering the production costs of the system. That is something Sony desperately needs to do. This definitely makes sense. Whether it's real or not...who knows.
but I like my 1st-gen-phat-model cuz it still as all the goodies inside :)
I just hope the power supply doesn't come like 360's beat-ur-mom-brick...
Hopefully by that time there's more games, though. I'm not a MGS fan and I could care less for Resistance.
On the note of the size, the PS3 could definitely use a thinner, quieter version. However, I don't think this will make the 360 look unsightly. I really dig the look of it.
But to proceed to my main point of this post. Sony releases new SKUs on a frequent enough basis that there's a strong incentive for alot of us to keep waiting. Most of us already game on some combination of a PC, Wii, or 360, so we can hold off for a bit. Perhaps in 2009 or 2010 they will offer a PS3 that has backwards compatibility and can make coffee or has like a fleshlight on it or something, and then people like me will feel stupid for buying whatever SKU comes out in late 2008.
