Lionhead Studio's "game" that was probably just really always a tech demo anyhow, Project Milo, has been shelved, according to a source speaking with Eurogamer.
Word is that the project was shut down earlier this week, with 19 contractors hired to work on the project laid off. In its place, it's said that technology from Milo will be used in the development of a "Fable-themed Kinect game."
The history of "what's up with Milo?" has been a sketchy one. Lionhead's Peter Molyneux demoed the game during the initial reveal period of Microsoft's motion control tech. After some silence, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg seemingly confirmed it was a tech demo, later to be contradicted by the publisher who itself who claimed it was a product slated for a holiday release.
What's the stance now? "Microsoft does not comment on rumor or speculation."

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Even if they did, it wouldn't be much of a game...
I think this is for the best, and I don't find this surprising at all.
Full of shit but hilarious to listen to.
@strandli
"No-one can honestly think that a small studio like Lionhead could create the world's most advanced artificial intelligence, with a voice and animated face, on a 199$ machine with a web camera and microphone hooked up to it"
Why? We sent men to the moon on far less powerful equipment than an xbox 360.
A "tech demo" would consist of programming.
All this looked like to me, and many others all along was a staged series of video's to promote "hype" for the possibilities of Kinect.
That, and what Strandli said.
@Bakewell
Yeah, but Molyneux wasn't in charge of the space program. Therein the problem lies.
"Nintendo has shown they've done motion controls the right and eun way."
Fixed that for you buddy, no need to thank me.
You're honestly comparing Moleneux, Milo and Kinect with a "mild budget", to people going to the moon? Seriously?!
If artificial intelligence was possible today, someone other than Lionhead would have come up with it first. 360 isn't the only "powerful" machine today, if a 360 could do it, then so would any computer sold in the recent years. Even the military (or anyone else) has technology which is close to what Moleneux described 2 years (?) ago.
If a technological breakthrough like this happens, it won't be on the 360, or any other home gaming console.
freak
I was just saying that fantastic things can be born from simple ingredients. Chill out mate.
Well, you did ask why ;) And comparing Moleneux's work to the moon landing is a bit extreme no matter what :p
I've seen incredible things from "simple ingredients", but A.I like that wouldn't be possible on home equipment just yet, we are still struggling with getting an intelligent text-only intelligence. There are some, but not that good.
Anyways. Hooray fable on rails. Seriously, is a good stand alone game even possible with kinect alone?
We already have Kinectimals
Learn to read. I made it VERY clear that i was high lighting the ability to create something incredible from a simple thing. It was more a comment on mans abilities to succeed rather than your perceived "hurr hurr rocket ships and ai".
@romo
How does this not bode well for kinect when, at a time when you believed it would be released, it wouldn't bode well for kinect. Are you suggesting that whether it was released or not it wouldn't be a good thing?
Just checked sales figures for move.
Seems 140,000 isn't as epic as you are making out, especially seeing as Sony has sold 38 million ps3 units.
You have no idea how many units Sony has put to market. Supply seems to be short across the continent. Sales figures are irrelevant.
It seems Sony is taking a practical angle with Move distribution. Similar to how Atlus handles their publishing. Just a bit at a time. Allow stock to sell through then replenish stock again. This minimizes the risk while maximizing revenue
That's true. Sony is playing it safe with the distribution of Move. Let the ones who have it spread the good word of mouth to the others and build up more demand. Good job Sony.
I see your point but it might be worth telling that to nintendo. You couldn't get a wii around where I live for about 6 months, as soon as they came in they were gone again.
I was in my nearest game shop an hour ago and there was an abundance of Moves on sale.
I'm not slating the move, I'm just pointing out to our resident Sony PR man that what he is saying is fictitious and delusional.
If the product was as good as your bosses tell you it is it would be sold out.
If we go by your assumption that Sony are holding back units to sell until word of mouth convinces people it's good then Sony are up shit creek without a canoe, let alone a paddle.
Sony have faith in their product. They aren't holding back units as a sales stratergy, it's simply a case of most people who wanted motion controlled gaming already have a wii. The same will happen with Kinect
well you may not be slating yet you seem to be negative on it when the gaming media are positive on the Move. C'mon, as a gamer, you should be open to new gaming trends. That's what part of gaming is.
I see nothing new with the move. I'm not slating it either. I'm 100% sure that if you didnt already own a wii and had a ps3 with the inclination for
Motion control then you're in for a treat but Sony and Microsoft are a little late to the ball game.
It's not me you need to tell this pish to romo, it's all the ps3 users who haven't bought it.
I have a deep, deep aversion to sales people.
easier.
C'mon. We're gamers. Why the hate? So i am the resident Sony PR, because i appreciate what Sony is doing with The Playstation 3 and the Move? So be it. I guess i m sort of that..haha. Spreading positive news about the Playstation 3 because its a really good system and doesn't deserve the hate, from some of the people here.
I mentioned no boycott.
What I am saying is (and what should be clear to anybody who can read) is that romo is full of PR spin and crap.
Ask yourself this. If Sony had spent millions creating move, why would they slowly drip feed the peripheral to consumers and wait for other people to say how good it is? This generations console wars is rabid, sales figures are the new deities to be worshipped. Does it not make sense to put sa many units out for sales and profit, just as every game manufacturer has done with all of their products?
Nope. Let's release a few and sell our stuff via word of mouth!!!
@romo
There not a single molecule of hate in me for any of the things you say. Confusion? Yes. Disbelief? You better believe it! A strong sense to call you out everytime you spout insane shit? Without a doubt.
That roughly translates to 'shovelware title with the art style and general aesthetic of a AAA title to lure you into thinking the game might actually be good.'
It's true, look it up.
No probs dude. I may come across as a fanboy buy I'm multi console to the core.
I don't doubt the move will sell either, I just don't think it's the revolutionary device romo paints it to be.
