Nintendo found a major loophole in the gaming industry and came up with
Nintendo WiiPlay360

That plays xbox 360 games and ps3 games and wii games on one playform.
with the motion control acting as natal and arc.

It won't be the Wii HD, they came out and said that was a stupid idea, which it is. I don't even know why you'd want that. No game would support the higher resolutions, meaning they'd have to release Wii HD games in order for you to make any advantage out of that.

It will not be what any of you suspect it will be.

I agree a Wii HD would be largely pointless, but many normal Wii games are capable of displaying higher resolutions than 480p. There are Wii emulators out there that can play back games at higher resolutions than the Wii and it shows. Super Mario Galaxy especially looks nice at higher resolutions.

There's actually more info about this knocking about. It does indeed seem to be a handheld, reportedly. Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, when interviewed by Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, said ''(the new hardware) will have highly detailed graphics, and will have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing'' He then went on to say, in a coy manner, that there was no point discussing it too much right now, what with how popular the DS still is. And that is the part which kinda reveals it is indeed a handheld, or at least, is likely to be.

Also, to back up the idea of it being a handheld, there was another rumour recently that Nvidia had picked up a contract to make new high-tech chips for a DS follow up. What Iwata said, and this upcoming announcement, would suggest the rumour was true.

DS2 announcement would be the best, and is definitely the most likely. It would be a huge blow to Sony though.

Since evetything Nintendo has made may be a minor improvement... perhaps the Wii Plus? If so, make it HD, but not 1080p as it can sometimes make more freamrate drops than games on other consoles...

The DS turns six this year, so it's about time as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't be surprised if something was misinterpreted, and its really going to be information on the Vitality Sensor which is "hardware" that we haven't heard anything about yet.

I don't really know why you all get upset about having so many versions of any nintendo product. I mean the gameboy went through oh so many variants before it died. Nintendo whores out whatever "fresh take" they have on they're technology.. figured you guys would be used to it by now, i am.

If its just a new Wii SKU though, than what would developers be developing for it, beside the Wii games that they're already doing right now? If its real, than it has to be a new handheld, because why would Nintendo kill off the Wii? Its making money for them, hand over fist and its only been out for just over 3 years.

This just sounds to crazy on both fronts, because they still have the DSi XL to be released in North America, so wouldn't announced a new handheld kill most of the DSi XL sales, before it even goes on sale? I doubt this is real, but you never know, because stranger things have happened!

I predict a new GameBoy. Don't forget, Nintendo said the DS is the third pillar when they introduced it. We're nine years into the GBA's life cycle. It's high time they introduced a successor to one of their three pillar platforms.

I'm going to play this smart here. The Wii is only 3 years old. Nintendo just announced the bigger better DSi XL which hasnt even been released to public . The last gameboy that came out was the Gameboy Micro and it was released in 2005 it didn't do anything different but streamline it. so i'm pretty sure its going to be a new Gameboy.

How about that. Gameboy New, with a camera one screen, sick free wireless support? It was supposed to be a three pillar thing, but that kind of fell off once the DS really hit it big.

If anything, this will be a new DS. I highly doubt a newer Wii will be announced.

With the iPad just having been announced I'd say nintendo would want to secure that hand held space that has kept the in profit for years since GB. Without that, they'd be in a lot of trouble, so yeah, I think it will be GBDS2.

Such a move would also put the shits up Sony's colon, who's desperate to get PSP Go to sell. Don't see that happening without a touch screen or UMD drive, Sony. There's also enough version of the DS out there, that Nintendo will look to possibly phase out the DS Lite, keeping the DSi, DSXL and the new one.

Nintendo - always one step ahead of the market. I'm betting £2 at Ladbrokes that they announce their first step into 'kitchen-gaming' ("play and sautee") with the Flame and Watch - a handheld oven with 2 hobs, 2 different choices on HOW to cook and an inability to count the number 999!

To be honest I'd probably buy that. It would go well with my Xpress Refrigerator 360.

you guys are jumping the gun. New hardware can mean anything. Maybe its another extension for the wiimote.

This sounds like rubbish as Nintendo are in no need to release any new platform (even the DS which is pretty old still sells and if the techies are to believed next gen handhelds aren't in a position just now to benefit from new tech). IF this is true (unlikely) then it will be the DS, no chance of a Wii HD, no need for it.
