Superannuation, some of the best internet Matlocks around, have discovered something very interesting. It's a job listing for the team at EA that makes Boom Blox. It's pretty straight forward for the most part. They need some new devs to help them work on their new game. They're a tight knit group that they describe as "What if EA had an internal start up? The BAFTA-winning Boom Blox team is an agile, closely-knit group which answers questions by prototyping before building design documents." Yadda, yadda, yadda.
Then it gets interesting when they drop this nugget: "Our last two titles were Wii-based, but our next titles will be for the next generation." Assuming that they aren't referring to the next generation of consoles after this cycle, and are instead indeed saying that the Wii is not next-gen, but the 360 and PS3 are, that means that it is highly likely that they're working on a Boom Blox for Sony and Microsoft's upcoming motion control tech. This is even more likely when you consider some previous job listings and a Linkedin page that show EA working on an unannounced PS3 motion control/Natal game.
Could it be? Maybe they're hoping for a bit more market share for the game. Maybe it's a direct port. It's not like Boom Blox is that graphically demanding so why couldn't it be ported to all three systems? With that in mind it actually seems a bit less likely that this is indeed a Boom Blox game being discussed.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm calling it.
EA will have lots of polishing time, so no delays this time.
Actually SONY wants it to be released on 1 year. They are crazy.
Although if this is a discussion about normal controller based games, then I say would these developers stop being elitist snobs about graphics and stop trying to upgrade out of the current generation's most popular systems (as in the PS2, the Wii, and the Nintendo DS).
HiddenAHB: I think they're scheduled to be released Spring 2010.
@h5
Only the morons said this game was bad: it received glowing reviews from just about every medium.
And EVERYONE bashed Nintendo and said motion sucks, but they get all happy when it comes to there system.
I have a 360, and NATAL will be sh*t
"Minigame Collection Party Carnival Family!" however, is.
I agree, Natal won't be worth owning. The Wii is only worth owning because of the Nintendo titles, and it still receives heavy criticism. Could you imagine what would happen if a motion controller could only rely on the Wii's 3rd party software?
I kind of want to watch when it blows up. Unfortunately, I also wanted to watch the PSP Go blow up, but for some reason it's being counted like a normal PSP. How am I supposed to judge how much of a failure the PSP Go is if sites like Destructoid won't tell me? I fear that I won't be able to watch Natal burn for the same reason I can't watch the PSP Go burn - a lack of information supplied by journalists.
@ Destructoid journalists
Please, please, PLEASE get some numbers for the PSP Go. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know how "successful" the first system that fully embraces digital distribution is. In fact, I think we all badly want to know how many PSP Go's were sold, and fanboys from both sides want to know which take on DD is correct.
So Microsoft won't ever make any Natal Software? Molyneux isn't planning anything for Natal, and the peripheral is at the mercy of third party shovelware developers?
What?
Cliffy B has also said he's excited for Natal. While I THINK it's going to tank, it HAS support from industry giants.
Microsoft isn't a very good first party compared to Nintendo. It really relies strongly on third parties and Bungee.
And enough of this "excited for Natal" PR pandering. Natal is planned for release in under a year. Name 3 pieces of software that will require, or at the very least use Natal, and how Natal will be used in them.
The first Boom Blox game apparently solver over 980k copies. If that's true then that's very good for an original IP that's not an AAA title.
Not sure how well Boom Box Bash Party is doing though.
You do realize that Game Freaks, and iNiS (the developer of Elite Beat Agents) are owned by Nintendo, and make games for them, but aren't technically "Nintendo Studios".
Well, Bungee and such are the same exact way for Microsoft. I don't get your argument.
I also don't get your disdain for Natal without actually knowing how it works. While I don't like the idea of not using a controller; how do I know whether or not it'll have an option for one? What if Cliffy B's next Natal game is amazing? WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING YET. It's fine to think someone will tank, as that's your opinion, but to have utter disdain for something you haven't even touched is just illogical.
NO. You DO NOT get to argue that on me.
My arguement about Bungee is that that's all Micorsoft seems to have first party wise. Rare, Bungee (who already said they won't use Natal in Halo Reach) and that's everything of note. This is compared to Nintendo, who has Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and the entire 'wii "insert word here"' series. Obviously Nintendo is strong when it comes to companies that are Nintendo exclusive.
Why are YOU so excited for a product that no one will tell you anything about? we don't know anything because NO ONE IS SAYING ANYTHING. There is NOTHING to be excited about until we have the exciting software to talk about. So what if Cliffy B's Natal game is amazing? What if Bunjee decides to make the next Halo a Nintendo exclusive? What if the Soviet Union reorganizes for an expedition to farm gold on the moon? Don't play the "What if?" game with me, because anything is possible in the real of hypotheticals. Give me facts to make me excited about Natal, show me exactly how Natal will be used, or stop defending things you know nothing about due to not being told anything about them. Because if the marketting department of Microsoft can't argue that Natal will be awesome with anything other than "developer support", you can bet they must not have a lot of things to brag about.
"Nintendo rocks"
"Microsoft sucks and relies on Bungee LOL"
How can I argue against that with logic?
Also, wow: you really hate Microsoft...my condolences. You're missing out on some really great exclusives and a robust online play system.
I'm not.
I'm just not burning it at the stake and yelling "WITCH! WITCH! FAILURE!" like you are before you've even touched the thing.
STRAW MAN ARGUMENT. IT ALWAYS WORKS!
I don't dislike Microsoft. I simply recognize that Microsoft relies more strongly on 3rd party support than Nintendo, and that if Nintendo relied of 3rd party support for it's motion controls, then the Wii would have gone the way fo the dreamcast.
I dislike hype for products I know nothing about. I dislike not being told anything about products that are supposed to be exciting. In other words, I dislike Natal not because I don't know anything about it, but because no matter how hard I look, I cannot find concrete information about software that incorperates Natal. Every developer except Lionhead has declined to show any incorperation of Natal into their products, and there has not yet been a single public demo of Natal; as in Microsoft has not yet allowed any normal gamers (not journalists or celebrities) to get hands on time with software that will be released with Natal. And yet it gets a rediculous amount of media attention for a product that we have been refused information about.
is one of the very few wii titles that uses the WIIMOTE in imaginative ways, unlike most Quick-Time-Waggle games like NMH and Madworld
so basically it was one of the few wii titles that coudlnt be done on any other console... until now
atleast this new tech in allowing more people to enjoy those great games
