Killspace Entertainment, an officially unannounced game development company consisting of former employees of Red 5, Obsidian, Pandemic and EA LA might be hard at work on a game based on Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam war epic, Apocalypse Now.
The evidence? First is the knowledge that the company out of Calabasas, California has a project based on a licensed IP. But that could be anything. The real meat is in the recent registration of "apocalypsenowgame.com," which bears the company's name as the registering organization. The thematically similar "warisnotagame.net" has also been registered.
I can see how this classic film can be made into a game. I just can't see the why apart from cashing in. Even now, I foresee the immensely sad irony that will come as teenagers laugh uproariously at the scene where Kilgore napalms the tree line so his men can go surfing. God willing, they'll skip on the minigame there.

As long as the soundtracks are kickass.
Completely ignoring the actual theme and message of the movie and just putting up a scene-for-scene facsimile would be an insult to both gaming AND Frank Coppola.
If this shit turns out fo real facts, These guys better be handling this with better care than ANY other developer out there with how they go about this thing.
That said, I'm gonna hold my reservations for this one. I will be surprised if it does the source material justice.
You're about 20 years too late. :/
I think Courtney Roberts brings up a valuable point on making what will probably be an FPS from an anti-war themed source.
Granted I've never seen the film but if it truly is anti-war I think making a war game out of it is disgustingly disrespectful to it's creators.
You're missign the point, Apocalypse Now wasn't a war movie of the normal blow-stuff up variety. It was a trip up a river that was meant to be an exploration of the entire dark side of humanity that's meant to make you question what you thought you knew at the start. It could have been set in ANY war, it wasn't important to the story.
If you make a game for Apocalypse Now that puts all the focus on gook shooting and the Charlie Don't Surf scene, you are missign the premise by a few miles.
awesome!
Leeching off another materpiece = instant recognition on the shelf, which is commercial gold dust, especially for new franchises.
Now this, this right here is fucked up.
no.
@ Xzyliac,
It's about fucking time. Good Vietnam games are loooooooong over due.
With that said, I seriously doubt this will be one of them.
And there's no way that (if the game actually gets developed and you play as Willard) this game would ever be released as a shooter, no one's that dumb. Think it's doubtfully this game would be adapted as any type of action game for that matter if it's really based on the events of the film (Willard doesn't exactly kill alot of people in the movie). I'd imagine it'd end up as something different from a shooter, maybe something in the style of Heavy Rain or something...who knows. Still unhappy with the news.
However... making a game of Apocalypse Now?
NO.
Just look at the Godfather and Scarface games... they turned out to be be classics </sarcasm>
